You need a lot of resources to prevent terrorism.

-A federal database with every somali nationals face, name, adress and closest reletives.

-face recognition ctvs in every corner

-An electronic license plate, to monitor and track any car when needed.

-A well paid anti terror unit guarding checkpoints

- New roads with mechanical devices to lock down the cities when needed

Somalia doesn't have the resources to do all that. We'll take the long road and win by killing everyone of their supporters.
That sounds like a dystopian Orwellian nightmare, which even with China's resources isn't plausible.

How about establishing a covenantal, civic unity across the nation and rebuilding an inclusive technocratic institutions (including the army, where those who serve will be looked after!). You cannot continue to try meet fire with fire, innocent civilians will keep dying.

The economic and political development is linked to the outcome of AS. To tackle AS is to tackle the broader question of the broken (and imo still transitional) Somali political system.

All of that can be done in a smaller scale in the capital. You have a point in how we can prevent new recruits, but those already in AS has to die. There's no other option. They don’t see us as muslims and as such our blood is halal to spill.

A mass prison. You will never get rid of shabaab if this is the case. Somalis on the ground will not support an administration killing kids that were taken forcefully to become soldiers of AS.
Who said anything about children? They should never be judged as an adult. Rehabilitation and education is what they need.

It's a failed state for a reason. I'm surprised people still have hope left in this place.

They’ve become desensitized to the attacks and bombings. There’s no other explanation for the complacency we see from reer Xamar.
They thank God it wasn’t them in the bombing, then move on with their lives like nothing happened.

Reer Xamar are also to be blame, as they harbor Al-Kebab in their homes (many have Al- Kebab family members), pay/paid taxes to Al Kebab instead of resisting and turn a blind eye to Al Kebab activity in their areas.

At some point, it’s hard to feel bad for these people.

Its impossible to stop an endless supply of imbeciles with explosive vest who are willing to die in huge numbers for a lost cause, with endless supply of suicide vests from wetern nations and their collaborators.

Even they themselves cannot stop this, it's impossible to pat down millions of people everyday, no nations has those resources.

Endless Corruption, injustices and lack of educations plays a huge role here, its easy to convince those youths to blow themselves up.

The only reason why AS can survive in that environment is if a huge section of the civilians there harbour the same beliefs and ideology. They can't go after AS because it would mean having to confront your brother, sister, mother, father, uncle, clan elder etc. AS is so intertwined with those communities it's impossible to dislodge them.

The only hope is to outlaw Wahhabism as a heretical sect, ban teaching their books, regulating all the Madrasas and Islamic institutions opened by those coming from Saudi Arabia in particular and appoint an astute Minister of Religious Affairs.

Alhamdulillah where I'm from in Awdal, we have our own regional Mufti, Sheikh Abdillahi Sheikh Ali Jowhar hafidhahullah. He is a traditional Somali Sufi scholar and son of one of the most prolific scholar of the Somali Peninsula. Everyone considers him their spiritual guide which is why we don't have suicide bombers, random killings and AS khawarij Alhamdulillah.

Anyone who lives/has family in Xamar, what is the plan long term given AS are clearly not going to end anytime soon and the dowlad has shown it cannot prevent it

If this is normal life and "just accept it" then wallahi I'll rather live in baadiya than that. What happened to gurguurte's SNA plan from ceel buur to jubaland taking out them all? I genuinely am interested how normalised this is and how diaspora go to Xamar for long casually, it is mentally taxing and unsustainable
Xamar has seen worse especially under the last president farmaajo when the khawaarij blew up a busy intersection killing 800 people in an instant

Its funny how folks are itching for a conflict with Ethiopia when it cant even deal with alshabab. What a joke.
War with Ethiopia and war against shabaab are not proportional. Ethiopia can’t even control its own territory either, and lacks the financial capacity to wage war against Somalia. We’re in the same boat. Plus a war against Ethiopia would be a pan Somali one. All those unregulated weapons and clans with their mini militias would fight too.

Salafism is as strong as it is in Somaliland than many parts of the South. The most famous Ulema are mostly Salafis like Sheikh Mustafa and the Sufis Tariqas have greatly reduced in influence.

The difference is that the armed wing of alitihad in SL and PL put down their weapons and work with the clan states. In the south, the youth armed wing of itixad became shabab with help of OBL and another wing led by Tahir Aweys continued their struggle till the Great War happened with the Ethiopians. Shabab and Isis don’t have the support of mainstream Salafi scholars. The problems in the South are more political in nature. AS thrives as much due to the political circumstances and lack of security than it does ideology.
