I really couldn’t care less so good luck but I wouldn’t back out the champagne until some real actions happen instead of bogus rumours from shady twitter news agencies.
I didn’t know Al Jazeers was shady Twitter News Agencies especially considering they are biased towards their Somalian slaves in Xamar. It was the Financial Times quoting an US official.

Whether it happens or not, Hargeisa/SL will never be ruled by Xamar. Don’t know when that will sink in to their heads

The US also doesn’t respect the international order. It’s time for SL to get our lick now and then once a Democratic govt gets into office the other Euros & Canadians/Australians will follow suit.
What happened sxb, I thought you were a Somali nationalist now 💀😂

They are closing africom and their base in Djibouti and merging it with EUCOM to save costs. Why would they then turn around and open a new base in Berbera which would require much more in terms of investment than what they are leaving in Djibouti? Makes zero sense.
Djibouti is compromised. US has to import supplies for its base through a chinese partly owned/operated port whilst Berbera is UAE owned(US ally).

Political suicide for any SL admin if they go through with it. Especially in this age of social media, you cannot get away with these deals. Gaalraac accusations would haunt the ruling government for ever.

Geographically, Eritrea is ideal for a base. Berbera is kinda far away from the houthi controlled areas. I don’t see a realistic reason for a US in SL.

If recognition is on the table, what borders will be recognized is what I'm wondering. Also, if UAE follows with recognition, I wonder what the rest of the Arab League would say. I feel like a base is not enough for Trump, I think they'll also push for normalization with Israel as well.

Trump has been wanting to expand the Abraham Accords to get more nation signatories. The fact that there's a lot of articles that keep linking Israel and SL makes me think that it's not just about a base, but normalizing ties as well for a security agreement.

I don't like this but we have to really stop caring so much about Somaliland. Hargeysa is gone. I'd rather focus on doing something to retain Laascaanood and SSC regions before Trump recognizes SL and starts funding their army.

We have to be fair. Unfortunately with this Trump second term US recognizing somaliland is quite likely and I wouldnt be surprised if it happened this year or next

Unfortunately the British colonial borders as claimed by Somaliland are the most likely to be recognized. If this goes through SSC may still be in control of Laascaanood but with US support SL will probably try to retake it. Scary times ahead

Why would he do that when he is explicitly against throwing U.S resources towards countries? He already told off Ukraine and is lowering funding in Somalia. Trump barely gives a crap about Africa let alone a small state like SL.

Trump is an unpredictable mad man, he doesn't act rationally. If he sees that recognizing SL can serve US interests and bring him popularity (even a tiny bit) he will certainly do it. Once Somaliland is recognized and has a US base in it's territory the US would probably want to make sure SL is stable and SSC might be a problem if fighting with SL breaks out again.

I'm calling this. This is the closest SL has ever been to recognition , I hope I'm wrong and maybe this is just talk though but negotiations starting isn't a good thing

Trump isn't stupid nor does he want to be seen as a hypocrite to his supporters. If he starts funding a random African Muslim state, everyone's eyebrows will be raised.

I'm still not really convinced that its happening despite all the recent buzz surrounding it. It simply makes no sense from a geopolitical stand point. SL realistically offers nothing to America and they would risk destroying their relationship with Somalia and wasting all their efforts stablizing it. With America leaving Somalia that would open it to fall under Russian or Chinese influence. Even worse, many Somalis would view such an act as a betrayal and whatever little respect they have of FGS would be gone and Al-Shabab would see a major resurgence.

At the end of the day, Somalia is a fragile place so any major actions like recognition would risk upsetting the region. That is why America is in the process of building new bases in Somalia and continue to support the governement.

Trump followers don't care about his hypocrisy. Anyways Somaliland offers a strategic position, the Us has a base in Djibouti but the Chinese are also there which causes friction. Somaliland would be a country that allows US to have more control over the red sea and Gulf of Aden. Trump doesn't care about Somalia's stability or what somalis think. The FGS is corrupt and weak , he would threaten them and they'll comply and accept SL recognition if forced to

1. The U.S has Djibouti, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt to guard the Red Sea, they aren't spending millions on a new base, that is a redundant move especially when it wouldn't be as strategic as Camp Lemonnier since Berbera isn't in the Red Sea.

2. You mention China but forget all the other countries that have a base in Djibouti (France, Italy, Japan) are close U.S. allies.

3. Its precisely that FGS is weak and corrupt that they will go to Russia and China instead or even fall to Al-Shabab altogether. The Russians are already active in West Africa so I'm sure they would be eager to have Somalia under their thumb.

Trump could recognize Somaliland while also not changing much about Us policy in Somalia so continuing supporting the FGS. Certainly FGS reaction in case of SL recognition is not a concern for Trump

So you think FGS wants to continue their relationship with a country that supports a seperatist faction over them? What sense is that? And even if you think FGS doesn't care, AS does. Simply put, America can't continue their policy if they go the road of recognition because Somalia will change drastically.
