I dont have ecology or agricutlure background but always felt something was off since we dont have heavy machinery and huge population so how was all this desctruction happening. Off course charcoal burning should be limited but if people broke and starving its human nature.

I asked chatgpt to estimate number of trees cut in congo and it came up with 250 million trees a year. Probably decent margin off error as its using acres lost and mulitplying density of trees be area to come up with rough number. But shows the difference climate makes

Congo is a rainforest. There is only 3 of them on earth. Brazil, Congo and Indonesia.

My 2 cents this nomadic lifestyle and people being spread out not sustainable. Somalis need to build modern cities start manufacturing. This way people have gas and electric to cook and wont need to burn trees. The other positive is you can spend big money on things like desalination plants that costs can be spread over all the citizens who will benefit. but right now every inch of somali land being abused by nomads and with our climate doesnt seem sustainable

I have seen a lot of people say we should plant trees everywhere. But trees require good amount of water how is this possible
Geoengineering is a real thing grow enough trees and do certain things you end up having a microclimate. A lot of Somalia has large underground reservoirs you could use some to create a regenerative cycle

These water harvesting systems is simple and needs to implemented big way even though I have seen some of these water harvesting techniques done in some parts of the Sool Plateu .

Isn’t Somalia sitting on one of the biggest natural water reserves ?
I don’t think so alot of it already gets depleted by humans and animals which then gets recharged by rain. our population and livestock booming i would say water is big issue and will continue to be. Especially places with huge populations like xamar will need desalination plant I would think one day
