It's hard to say due its briefness, but i think the Islam and sharia rooted governance would prove to be more effective at building political unity amongst Somalis across regions. Especially one that is durable and lasting. It might not even have to be autocratic/dictatorial in nature to bring it about and can take root through a commercial/judicial expansion or cross-communal consensus building.

Another reason why it would have been the most successful thing, even more so than the Kacaan mode of governance which i prefer it over, is that it was a organic and deeply cultural and historical rooted and basically the application of centuries old practices, concepts and methods of governance that are tested and proven.

It's a shame that it's rise coincided at the time with the ''War on Terror'' which was actually a war on Islam, demonetization of any Islamic expression and their opponents exploited it to bring it down.

@X29 This is perhaps one of the reasons and Isreal's lobbying that the US didn't roll out with maximum support for Somalia, as their military aid that did give us was lacking and they didn't intervene directly. It's only Muslim nations like Iraq, Saudi, Egypt and Iran that pressured the US to protect Somalia if Soviet was going to support an invasion, which prevented them from doing so in the end.

Part of me would like to believe that African nations have been coons themselves , we see this from colonial times.
