Yo your my 9th cousin, I just clocked it from the photo, chatgpt guessed ethiopian due to the extra Arabian ancestry you have.

0.22% Shared DNA ā€” Relationship Estimate:

  • Likely a 5th to 7th cousin
  • Estimated shared DNA in cM: Around 15ā€“25 cM
  • Common ancestor lived:
    • 6 to 9 generations ago
    • Roughly 180 to 270 years ago

Message me on 23andme, so i know you from there, its good to know we are related.

I have alot of relatives with Haplogroups T, my great grandmother from mum side is Samaron from Borama, most likely we related from my great grandma side. But we can be related from either isaaq, if you have isaaq roots from maternal side. Also my maternal grandmother is Habar yonis and from my father side my grandmother is harti dhulbahante, my paternal grandfather his mother is cidagale, so I have relatives all across the northern region. I also get relatives from Sourthern regions but usually it cause one of the parents or a great grandparent is either isaaq, samaroon or Harti. I learnt no matter where we are we can be related from as south as jubaland, NFD, Djibouti, Puntland or K5, I get relatives all the place. Text me on 23andme indr

Itā€™s not based off any user training content, rather sites like this that are filled with descriptions from the early 1900ā€™s containing misunderstandings on Somali anthropology when it comes to clans:

Not only do these early anthropologists fail to understand the concept of ā€œShegadismā€ amongst Bantu clients, ethnic Somalis rarely intermarry with the Madoweyne community. The few times that it does occur results in ostracization (Page: 14 and 12, respectively):

The features you listed, ā€œdarker skin + coiler hairā€, can be possessed by individuals within any clan (north and south). This same phenomenon can also be found amongst family members in which a spectrum exist in terms of features. Hence why many Somalis appear to look no different from your sister, your cousin, your grandfather, etc. despite being largely unrelated to you.

The fact that these AI's can't distinguish one clan from another correctly, all while assuming the vast majority of us are from the north, isn't surprising in the least. Even a Yibir/Tumaal/Madhiban would get these same results:

UNCU/UN-OCHA SOMALIA - "With the exception of the Bantu, Rerhamar, Bravanese, Bajuni and Eyle who have distinct "non-Somali" physical appearance, all other minorities have physical appearances similar to that of the dominant clans, as well as having ethnic and cultural similarities."

Despite what some trolls say, none of this should be shocking:

A. M. Mohamoud - "The results are consistent with hypothesis, supported by cultural and historical evidence, of common origin of the Somali population":

I am not from a minority clan but I do have features resembling a ā€œtypicalā€ southerner like dark brown copper skin and loosely curled hair, bigger lips and a soft button nose. A northerner most cases looks a tiny bit different and Ive noticed it.[majority lighter brown skin, sharp nose] Even when I went to the shop one time this habaryar asked me ā€œare you from _____ clanā€ in which she got right. Point is most Somalis themselves can tell themselves apart and some have such a keen eye that they can tell people apart right down to their subclan. So I think if we could feed chatgpt the right information it could tell us apart

I did a little experiment, it guessed the horn when my hair was curly and south asia/middle east/north africa when my hair was straight. It specifically said I looked more southern Somali when I had bed hair, and northern Somali when I had my hair freshly washed.

This is a very anecdotal statement and isnā€™t grounded in any science. As many users have pointed with a plethora of sources, such as Shimbris, thereā€™s little genetic variation between those of the north and south to support remarks of unique phenotypes between clans, let alone subclans. What your are experiencing is referred to as confirmation bias. Many users are, in fact, trying repeatedly until it gets it right or providing hints. This is something you noted yourself. A hallmark of confirmation bias:

I encourage you to take time to search Djibouti politicians, come back and say these individuals are a ā€œlighter brownā€. The fact that it guessed one of the largest clans in the south, let alone in Mogadishu, isnā€™t surprising. Donā€™t forget, itā€™s actively get others users wildly wrong.
Yes you are right my post was not grounded in science which is why I used my own experiences to try to explain the differences between everyone. Ill rephrase my sentence for it to be more objective [this is also still not scientific so bare with me here]:

Somali people look similar to one another however certain traits are carried by certain clans/regions more. For example out of all fully ethnic somalis, the distribution of people with lighter skin would be higher in the north than a full ethnic somali that lives in the south. This is because the north is colder than the south due to the elevation and there is a tiny bit more natufian admixture due to proximity with the arabian peninsula. This does not mean that there are no darkskins in the north, just that a certain trait is more frequent in a certain region than anywhere else.

In my case, I am extremely darkskinned with loosely curled hair. Darkskinned somalis are in my opinion the majority in all of somaliweyn but it is far more frequent in the south. Also, Instead of the usual somali aquiline nose, I have a slightly wider button nose without a nose bridge, something extremely common in my subclan. Instead of the angular face majority of somalis across all regions have, I have more of a diamond face with more blunt cheekbones, again something that is frequent in my subclan.

With all of this combined, chatgpt used this information and got my clan in 1 go.

However with that being said, we are more similar to one another and this is just chatgpt picking up on extremely subtle differences.

This reply is genuinely laughable. The fact that you still claim it got it all in one go is a blatant lie.

You tried a minimum of twice as you had shown us in your own postings. In your original attempt it thought you were Geledi and Reer Hamar as its second choice, but in your second attempt it flat out refuses to think you are Reer Hamar. It didnā€™t even have Abgaal in your top #3 options in your first attempt, but rather three clans with high Arabian admixture. ChatGPT has no idea what itā€™s talking about.

This was my original reply, I thought about expanding on it and deleted it. This is not needed anymore.
