Yes all these large identities are just a group of assimilated people. The 'Han" are 1.1 billion ethnic group but they're extremely diverse even in terms of languages which are called dialects. The han Chinese came due to the Chinese empire which assimilated all the people into a single identity. Now the CCP government is aiming to wipe out all regional dialects and languages.

Somalis are a very normal and decent sized ethnicity. Majority of ethnicity groups our size generally came from mass assimilation like oromos and many people's in Europe. However Somalis are largley homogeneous. So we're quite big.

If somalis want to be massive ethnicity then we either need some nazi level stuff like conquering fertile lands in east Africa removing thr natives and settling Somalis to build large families funded by the state. In about 70 years we'll be 200 million or way above and closer to 300 if we took in Muslim oromo in hararghe.

Our population IS large though, as an ethnic group. Not everyone in China is Han Chinese, plenty of them are from separate cultures that got assimilated into Han Chinese culture. India is a nationality, with countless different ethnic groups who are all labelled as ''Indian''.

Compare our numbers to other Cushite/Cushitic groups in the horn of africa and you will see that our numbers are actually pretty good. Somalis are one of the largest ethnic groups in the horn and we have more territory than all other ethnicities. Of all Cushitic groups, only the Oromos rival our numbers, but the Oromo don't really count since Oromos are heterogenous, it would be inaccurate to call Oromos an ethnic group.

Our cousins are all much smaller than us, I think only the Afar come close and they are only 2 million and they hold little influence. We already have everything we need to dominate our region, all we need is political unity and cohesion.

If you count the Habesha as Cushitic, which they predominantly are genetically, then the population is comfortably over 100 million and is projected to exceed 200 million by 2050 due to high birth rates. Africans are only now experiencing the demographic boom that Europeans had a century earlier, so we're sort of playing catch-up demographically as a continent.

Ancient Lower Nubians would have genetically resembled Cushitic people. In 2000 BC during the Kerma era they were mostly indistinguishable from us, but over time, they gained additional admixture from Egyptian and Nilo-Saharan populations. By the Medieval Christian period, they were roughly 40% Cushitic give or take. Today they are a three-way mixture of Cushitic, Nilotic, and Eurasian admixture at varying levels.

I mean judging from the test they would've been a cushite-like population but they were not Cushitic. Cushites came from modern Sudan. Egyptians were their own seperatr thing, even distinct from berbers and Semites. But they were admixed since they were thr center of the Civilised ancient world at their age.
