Yes. Mogadishu was founded in the 8th century by arab traders hailing from the hejaz coast of modern day Yemen and Saudi arabia.
No but they did have a strong relationship and extensive social interaction with the Mogadishu sultante. The Mogadishu sultante supported Imam Ahmed jihad against abyssinia and even sent a large military contingent to the adal forces. Please read the historical dictionary of Somalia by mohamed haji muktar. The sultanates of Bali, hadiya, harar, fatajar, ifat and dawaro were all paying tribute to the Solomonic emperor. The sultanates based in Ethiopia were pretty much forced to pay tribute to abssynia because the Solomonic army was more powerful than them. Many of the sultanates in abssynia conceded defeat and paid tribute to abssynia until the rise of the heroic Imam Ahmed ibn ibrahim al ghazi.
The Mogadishu sultanate was not forced to pay tribute but they paid a generous portion of their trade profits to absynnia to prevent hostilities or future wars. Ibn battatu mentions that in his travel. He said the people of Zeila and Mogadishu were paying money to the absynnian emperor. Mogadishu was a tributary state of Zeila for some time.
