His telling the truth the somali governments have always pushed women rights even today there is laws on it no one follows thoe since no police or military exist but the main reason the last government was turned on was it was pushing for equal rights for women the clans opposing the former government started using it as propaganda tool calling the government kafirs it resulted in alot of shieks getting executed who were oppose the idea

Yeah but that was before not today.

The thing is the somali governments have always pushed for women rights is just that the civilians specially elders and local islam leaders have always opposed the idea:manny:
For the elders they don't want there culture being changed while the islam leaders see it as gaal work:pachah1:

Pakis have lived in UK since WW2 and most of them are still heavily cultured and reject secularism and liberalism. Granted, Somali culture is more open minded than Pakistani culture but it will take more than 2 generations for attitude change. Maybe our great grandchildren will be the ones.

Somalia can't afford laws from welfare states. Universal health care, education, unemployment benefits, old age care etc is extremely expensive.

So it doesn't make any sense copying law systems from countries based on such a framework.

Honestly why doesn't anyone kill the elders and sheiks? If barre hated qabil soo much in the begging why didn't he round them up and kill them all? I know I would

If I was president every single sheik and every single clan elder would be rounded up before zuhur.

Not now it doesn't. It took those countries centuries to get to where they are. Nothing happens over night.

Damn you're even using salat-timing to carry out your hypothetical mini-genocide.

It's not a genocide. Civilian would not be harmed. Clan elders are poison and we should cure our self from it.

Ha Islam bans qabil so it's only right I kill in the name of Islam.

We have massive natural resources, a long coastline filled with fish and strategic geographic placement for ports where we can distribute Chinese, Japanese and Indian goods to all of Africa. We can easily sustain ourselves, but depends on who gets the money. The government, the people or the corporations

Laws mean nothing if there isn't a state strong enough to enforce them, what Somalia needs is a strong central state that doesn't bend itself to the whims of clans. Straight copying of the laws of some country doesn't mean shit, if the people aren't willing to follow it, what the somali people need is a cultural revolution.

For that to happen there needs to be leaders with strong political will and a people's movement following these leaders. Somalia could do with some Atatürk style nationalism and with laicism form of secularism.

Damn you're even using salat-timing to carry out your hypothetical mini-genocide.

Great way to get the people against you, killing their leaders like that rather than undermining them and involve the people in th political process.

The Year 1975 looms large in the annals of Somali history. It was also the year the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed asInternational Women’s Year. The special objective of International Women’s Year was to promote equality between men and women. What better year than 1975, where inheritance rights for Somali women were given international recognition and visibility. On January 11, 1975, Somali President, Siyaad Barre, announced a decree for women (Xeerka Qoyska), giving Somali women equal inheritance right. [1] As it happened, the new decree, which had a clause safeguarding women’s inheritance right, met a strong opposition at its early stage. Many men denounced the new law on religious grounds. Encouraged by some religious men, many young men organized protests on Friday sermons. In these sermons, they criticized the new law; and regard the observance of equal inheritance right as a step toward atheism. These religious men, lay or sheikh, attacked the new law and assaulted the morality and the goals of the Revolution, assailing in particular the President for ignoring his faith and denying the Islamic values of woman, family, and motherhood. They said justice and equality is one of the pillars of Islam and it helps eliminating all forms of inequality. They spoke about the importance of family in Muslim society. On the other hand, in an interview he gave to an Egyptian Magazine, ROSE AL-YUSUF (below), the President made a reference to foreign involvement in Somali affairs. He said that these foreign agents make use of religion to create riots and unrest in the country. The President declared that those who question Xeerka Qoyskamust know that they are law breakers, despite their use of the slogan “Allahu Akbar”. He said the new family law (Xeerka Qoyska) was the culmination of long struggle for equal inheritance right. The President also underlined that “Somali woman was a major pillar in our old and contemporary struggle. Without her, it was impossible for Somalia to become free.” In short, the government viewed this protest against equal rights decree for women as an act that incites subversion of State power and causes national disunity. On January 23, 1975, ten sheikhs were executed in Mogadishu by a firing squad. Their crime was speaking and involving in religious protests against the new family law. The ten men were:

Id like some rules and laws it be nice but back home the sheikhs and clan elders got alot more power everything can go in their favour

I wouldn't want Somalia to be the same as the here, where would I escape to? It might be hypocritical but
I like the fact I can chase girls here and not get hanged for it and when my days are over, I'd like to go back
home where modesty and self control is encouraged.
