You should not be happy with the status quo in Somaliland. Being stable next to your world reknowned for dysfunction neighbour isn't something to be proud of.

Somalias economy is probably bigger than that of Somaliland and that should worry you considering the current circumstances.

Meh, things are getting better. It's a painfully slow process tho:dabcasar:

Not in the near future. The biggest obstacle is that neighbouring countries with historical grievances have a huge influence in Somali politics. Imagine India playing a major role in Pakistani politics or China in Japanese politics or vice versa.

That's just time. I think Somaliland has been moving at the same pace since the 80's. It's individual businesses who are contributing the economy but the government hasn't made enough moves. The potential is massive for a vast number of industries.

Nothing the government can do without recognition.

Somaliland didn't exist in the 80s so it can't have been moving at the same pace

You see it that way because maybe you haven't lived in SL. Nor do you understand what state the country was post siyaad barre. I was there from the beggining, and seen the changes from east to west with my own eyes.

Since the last presidential election alone(2010-current)

-Free Education dugsiga hoose and dhexe
-tripled army and civil servants salaries
-Reconstructed several roads connecting boorame and gabiley
-Somaliland nation tele station went international & Radio station nationwide
-Reconstruction of the main roads between burco and hargeysa

last 2 years
-Airport upgrades(Berbera & Hargeysa) Also burco & Lascaanod
-300Km+ road from burco to ceerigaabo (20km left)
- Investment attraction of oil companies and Completion of aerial surveys for oil and gas in southern sanaag(companies supposed to return very soon)
- Corridor from Berbera to ethiopa which will bring in 300mil +, also nearly finalizing bollore or dp contract for the port expansion

Much more has been completed as well which I cannot recall. Like I said, SL is headed in the right direction, and the people love their land so I believe things will always be good there

Don't take it the wrong way. I didn't say the government haven't done anything for the country, I'm just commenting on the potential to generate more wealth not the effectiveness of the civil service etc Just looking at Djibouti port revenues made me think is all.

Djbouti has one city, djbouti city lol. intakale is hot hell and unbearable. SL has Borame, gabiley, hargeysa, berbera, and burco as major cities that are completely peaceful and are expanding at such a fast rate.

SL has two major projects that will change the dynamics of the country. 1 is the port corridor, 2 is the the oil and gas exploration. The former is already underway and taking place, the latter is still in it's early stages but wil only take a matter of time to precipitate.

They're a small country, I think Booraame is bigger.

Those two projects have the potential to fast track SL into middle income within 10 years.

Funny how how those who still has hope for Somalia never mention reconciliation as the first step forward, no wealth in the world will bring peace until there is reconciliation.
As for alshabaab when their time is up the southern warlords who are not better will be back:ftw9nwa:
