My family speaks mainstream somali but I've noticed I pick accent/ lahjad depending on which somalis I hang out with. My housemates are Isaaq and lately, my somali sounds more like reer waqoyi. I went to our local somali store to buy some new dirac for summer and the habaryar there is like, "Are you heblayo's daughter?" Heblayo being my new friends' mother.. 🤭

This one summer, I visited my abti and his wife is reer xamar. When I came back home, my family was like, "what is wrong with your af somali? Maxaad iska yeelyee leysaa?" :dead:

I can't wait to hang out with somalis who speak af may may so I can be a true transqabil hehe...😂

Anyone else?

Nah my family is only issaq. My somali accent is strictly reer waqoyi. If you speak another dialect of somali just speak English. I can only understand waqoyi somali ngl. My somali is mediocre. I can have a conversation and all but I can't articulate myself very well. I have to speak broken English with somali sometimes.

Also it ain’t reer xamar it’s reer koonfur. :tocry:

My family also speaks konfur somali.
I'm half hawiye half darood, a bi-qabil walalo :mjpls:

Reer xamar I mean the cadcad somali people. They speak differently than mainstream konfur accent 🙏
You got the best of everything. DNA from two main qabil and the accent from the cool northerners. I usually just imitate whoever I am with.

Thanks @Jaydaan

I pick accents easily, even non-somali ones. Sometimes it is subconscious. I dont even realize it until people point it out to me 😂
