Does Your Somali Accent Change Sometimes?

No my accent doesn’t change. Why would it? That to me, would be disingenuous. I have an aunt who does it and I think it shows you lack a backbone.

This is my own opinion.

I'll take qabil appropriation but lack of backbone?

I'll let you know abayo, that it takes guts to chill with a whole qabil who think you are one of
them🙃

Yes, lack of backbone because why would I want others to think I’m something I’m not? It’s better to speak your dialect and be proud of that instead of “code switching” to sound like another group of people.

Well, if that is how you see it then it is indeed your opinion.

I am a curious person and I enjoy learning new things. Let's agree to disagree.

Yes and I do it unconsciously :mindblown:

My mums friends is reer waqooyi, one day I was helping her translating a letter and I noticed myself saying “ waxa weeye”, whereas normally I say waaye . It’s so weird , even at home I use typical reer xamar terms like beeso (lacag) and mininka (guriga) but when I’m with other Somalis who speak standard Somali I switch to their accent because :gucciwhat:

Reer kiwi = Australia
