Does Your Somali Accent Change Sometimes?

Sometimes I see myself saying "Noh" which isn't in my daily vocab, but when it comes to accent, It isn't easy to flip up. The original Reer Mudug accent always comes into clutch as most if not everyone would understand you.

Reer waqooyi dialect sounds catchy ngl.
They come up with unique cuss words walaahi.

I speak standard Somali which is boring because there is no twang in the accent. So i do sometimes imitate others but more so out of jest and fun e.g i use a lot of cadcad Maahmaah at home because they're hilarious.

You would have to spend a huge amount of time around others to fully grasp another accent unless Somali is your first language then it's alot easier. That explains why i can put on a liverpudlian accent but a waqooyi lahjad not so much.

Yes and I do it unconsciously

My mums friends is reer waqooyi, one day I was helping her translating a letter and I noticed myself saying “ waxa weeye”, whereas normally I say waaye . It’s so weird , even at home I use typical reer xamar terms like beeso (lacag) and mininka (guriga) but when I’m with other Somalis who speak standard Somali I switch to their accent because

True, you don't even realize it until someone points out. For me, if I am comfortable around that person, I will go as far as outwardly imitating them and keep asking so they pronounce certain words? Then we laugh about it

I speak with a reer Waqoyi accent and whenever I happen to visit my dad’s side of the family from Gaalkacayo, they find my accent EXTREMELY funny. Except my grandparents, but then they also have the most pure central Somali accents out of the family. The rest grew up in capital and in Kismaayo, therefore the way they speak have been heavily influenced by the southern accents.

They sometimes make me feel like I’m speaking in the hillbilly accent of Somalis
