Very informative thread brother. What do you think about the thread I discussed this very same issue. So, let's adress the elephant in the room. All the strategies posted so far are farming strategies and the reality is our nomad population is simply not willing to farm (the majority of them that is). So, what is the solution?
Thankfully, there is a solution that combines raising livestock with regenerating the land which is arguably more superior with anything posted so far with even better results. I give you holistic planned grazing, every geeljire's dream:
Nevermind you already commented on the thread. We need more minds like you. My plan is definitely to buy land and have nice farm. Just look at how picturesque this village is now. Before there were bare hills and dusty plains with hardly any trees. Now it is a green oasis filled with trees and wildlife. Build a few nice cottages and it would also be a fantastic tourist site
Streams have come back to life and the Earth is verdant again. Do you want the dry river valley in your home village to flow all year round? Do you want to avoid sand and dust the next time you go home? Implement these strategies
Somalis are indhakugaraadlayaal. You have to show them the change and then they will follow you. Talking to mayors or trying to get others to do it is useless. You have to do it yourselfHow does a diaspora somali enact change in his home country? Do you talk to the msyor or save money and do it yourself?
Its a daunting task but wallahi it is worth it.Somalis are indhakugaraadlayaal. You have to show them the change and then they will follow you. Talking to mayors or trying to get others to do it is useless. You have to do it yourself
I hear somali diaspora people saying they will go back home to help out only to open a shop or a cafe or something else that doesn't really change anything. If only one of them did something like the Paani Foundation is doing or even implemented Holistic Planned Grazing on their own ranch. This thread is full of real life examples of how to overcome the vicious cycle of drought, flooding, poverty, and disease happening in the world as we speakIts a daunting task but wallahi it is worth it.
Yeah opening shop does not change the material condition of a whole village for example.I hear somali diaspora people saying they will go back home to help out only to open a shop or a cafe or something else that doesn't really change anything.
