Just listened in to the UN security council vote pertaining AUSSOM and it's funding. The Americans abstained and the mission will be funded until July 2025. The expectation is that they'll agree longer term funding before then. As it stands Ethiopia is out and their troops will draw down by July.

They didn't object to Ethiopia's comments either. I don't think objections are part of the procedure. Somalia and Ethiopia are there by the same rule, rule 37.

The decisions are made by the AU and the UNSC. The AU has opted to consult the FGS on troop composition. It remains to be seen if this operational aspect (inclusion of Egypt and removal of Ethiopia) will be accepted by the UNSC which is the final arbiter on the matter. (As far as I understand things).

True. But it seems likely they're being kicked out. This is without a doubt the largest victory for somali sovereignty since the country collapsed. The largest victory against ethiopia in modern somali history. These guys who've been here since 2006 over 16 years will now have to leave.
