Don't you reckon this might've been a strategic move on Ethiopia's behalf then. Reer Baadiyo and those from Somalia's borderlands, namely GM, that have been on the back foot because of Liyuu will become more emboldened and might turn DDS into a breeding ground for more clan conflicts.

Thus, making the Somalis forget about the ethnic conflicts. And I don't see how a national military composed mainly of other ethnic groups will stop that.

Probably. If DDS have 3 fronts (from Somalia baadiyo, Afar and Oromo) this’ll probably make it a lot easier for them to break any resistance from DDS. It’ll be dependent on what Abiy wants. If he truly is anti-ethnic Somali state this’ll be a great way of breaking it.

The underdogs in those zones that wants to expand and have backing from their cousins in the bordering FMS' will rejoice if this development comes into fruition

Ethiopia has never been united, and never will be, lol. Using direct or indirect forced measures, won’t change any of it.

The ethnic conflicts will only exacerbate, as our neighboring regions have more organized armed non-state forces and militias. Not to forget the support from military and gov’t establishment in Addis.

You are right the purpose was to defeat OG cause you isolated yourself in ONLF after the demise of WSLF. Zenawi/TPLF Admin saw through it and thought it would be befitting to make you fight your own kin lol.

If that was the case then why were ONLF members defacting by their own free will to join Liyuu since there was no forced recruitment? That doesn't sound like a group that was on the "verge of victory"
