Since when? I'm pretty sure Burco, Bosaso, Baydhabo, and Kismayo have larger populations.

It's closer to 500,000, tow, meanwhile, Burco population is moving to Hargeisa and Berbera for opportunities.

The hotels are always packed, alongside the restaurants that operate within them.

It has a population of nearly 400.000 according to the UN and international agencies.

Awdal has surpassed the population of 1M, alongside Awbarre, it surpassed Jijiga in population in the projected census, Ethiopians tend to downplay the population in the SR.

They are not only building hotels , this is false. The accommodations are not only aimed at foreigners, they are aimed at transnational Somali travelers and regional investors to inject foreign currency into economy and make use of services.

I'm sure they're not only building hotels but like I said, this goes for the whole of modern day Somalia not just Somaliland. I used a video from Somaliland/Boroma because that was what caught my eye but some small efforts in one region will not do us good.

Second of all, who are these transnational Somali travellers? Diaspora? I don't understand what you mean. Investment is good and I'm not denying that but I'd want to see more improvement alongside that like anyone else would

I looked at the tiktok account for example the same girl in that video shows they set up agricultural markets in Hargeisa to bring in fresh local produce.


I also looked up the company name. Apparently it is locally sourced produce aimed at boosting local agriculture

It is funded by a venture capitalist firm called Bilow Capital.

But yeah if you look through her Tiktok account she shows a diversity of businesses, it's not just hotel. It's like one video out of the many.

Admittedly I should have researched better. I wanted to reference the general trend of hotel building but it is wrong of me to use any general video. This girl clearly has good intentions.

I wanted to draw attention to the predatory nature of the increasing rise in hotel builds. I think a good number of the people doing this things do not have decent aspirations. They just want to take advantage of Somalia's cheap currency and cost to build a businesses. A lot of these private investors are diaspora born who move like Cadaans in Bali. It's not good to have lots of hotels yet see that investment severely outmatch national investment into the people.

I remember a Kenyan working on a hotel, living in Mogadishu, saying the biggest issue is that everything is imported when working on a Somali construction site. Last I checked, Somalia has no concrete manufacturing, no steel manufacturing, no glass production, no woodworking, very little HVAC specialists, etc.

Only thing worse than hotel is a restaurant. What are they trying to show off ? Only Somalis will go there and I rather stay with family than hotel. Somalis need to grow up and realize that to be a successful nation you need real industries
