Featurism - dark Somalis

It’s high time our people should stop obsessing over features. Every now & then I see a Somali girl/boy on my TikTok representing Somalia & their comments are filled with mockery’s over their noses, skin colour etc. We are not clones, we’re always going to have our difference the same way Ethiopians, Sudanese etc do. Embrace your people even if they don’t look like a stereotypical somali. It’s funny cause I never see this energy with people that look more arab. Only the Somalis who look darker, have wider noses etc. When you look at vintage pictures of Somalis , a lot of our people were brown dark skinned, some of had thin & slightly wider noses. Our people are constantly attacked by ajnabis but somehow we’re dividing eachother by qabils/ features etc. do better

Most lightskin Somalis have hard hair from what I have seen. Darker skin Somalis have softer hair. It's usually the lightskin ones who are more colourist.
Yeah it’s not just skin colour it’s over all features. They’ll see a Somali that might no look stereotypically Somali & go onto dissecting them. Sudanese ppl come in all shapes and sizes & so do Ethiopians & even Eritreans. Yet it seems to be our people that obsess so much over features. Mind you the Somali person they’re disrespecting will still be seen as Somali by ajnabis no matter their skin colour / nose.

Who is mocking them? Somalis or Ajanaabis? Cuz lowkey I think we as Somalis know that we come in different looks. Like my siblings and I have different skin colours, heights, features, and hair types. And when I look at the rest of my family and friends we come in different types but I can always tell when you are Somali. But also I have so much family/family friends from all over SL, Somali, Djibouti, Galbeed, and NFD so I am used to this.

Ajnabis are confused with us. Look at the internet, every somali couple, well 99% the farax is natural dark and the halimo is white 😂observe the weddings as well. Cajiib waaye
Are you talking about back home or here? Cuz whenever I go to weddings here its not like that. Even back home but it depends on the area your in. No ones as colour struck you will see different shades of Somali women married to Somali men. Like my parents are both dark skins. And I see dark skinned Somali women get snatched up and married all the time too.

Truth be told, the most striking Somali girls are maariin or dark. I say this as a less melanated Somali. Runta waa inaa laysku sheego. I don't understand this colourism, dadkaan waa dad jiran.

I agree this is so true. I don't get how we went from having pride in our skin and hair to hating it. I feel like especially back home they watched too much Bollywood films so we have other peoples beauty opinions making our people hate themselves. Living in the west we see people try to emulate cadaan beauty standards but people need to take pride in their hair type and skin.

I ment the girls are not natural white, they bleached obviously. Beauty comes with the natural skin colour. I have never sen woman that bleached aanan foolxumo ka qaadin. It changes fundemental facial structure leading to ugliness. The fob faaraxs are the culprits, calling girls cadey and so on. The beauty lies in the natural dark colour and also those born lightskin, without chemical intervention.

Does anyone here fit the current perpetuated Somali “image” that is being tossed around, especially for women, (light skin, loose hair, small nose). Just curious ?? And how common would u say this phenotype is in our community?

3LetterzMM

LG gang we gon slide for my nigga 🤐🥷
Majority of Somalis are dark skinned, what exactly are you trying to say
Most people won’t give u shit if ur darkskinned as long as u have the typical features (curly hair small nose etc) but people wit non typical Somali features are automatically considered Madow which doesn’t make sense. I think what he’s tryna say is dat the same way there are pure Somalis that look Arab there are pure Somalis that can also look madow we aren’t a monolith

I’m 1/4th Yemeni but I also have pure cousins that look much more Arab than me for example. I also know a half Ugandan guy that looks less madow then some full blooded Somalis.

Uncommon. Having all 3 is a bit out there. I've seldom seen Light skin somalis with loose hair to start with.

I’m darker if not as dark as say Idris Elba, same goes for my youngest brother. 2 of my other brothers and my 2 sisters are light skinned, think Ilhan Omar skin tone.
