The member states of the WHO (basically the entire world) voted. He defeated a candidate from the UK and one from Pakistan.

hmm, the fact that they landed this gig I assume they were successful in getting the oromo protestors inquiry heat off their backs. Landing this plush job signifies to me that Ethiopia's clout with the world didn't suffer after the recent crackdown on the protestors.

My life means something to me, there's over 100million ppl in Ethiopia who are just existing at this moment, they gotta do it.
