Fossil Sites in Somali regions?

Anyone have an idea where possible fossil sites could be found?

Based on my research, all Somali regions should be rich with all types of fossils dating even to the Cambrian period. But no-one has made an attempt at digging for them, so I might as well just do it myself!

This is one interesting Topic, yeah i agree there probably are huge amount of fossils on Somali Soil .I think i saw someone find a huge dinosaur teeth in one of the Somali regions.

I think the best region is Qardho, alot have been found there.

I say go for it, do some excavation when you are in Somalia next time.:nvjpqts:

Of course, it'll be one of my top priorities. But based on my predictions I'll probably find fossils of Allosaurus, Giraffatitan, Spinosaurus, Suchomimus, Carcharodontosaurus, Sarcosuchus, Kaprosuchus and etc. Since they all inhabited an area from Morocco to Tanzania, pretty much exciting if I find a Spinosaurus set since it would be the third one ever found in the World after Ibrahim's.

have people previously found fossil species on Somali soil or is it virtually just unexplored.

I guess its hard to know for sure without an actual national museum.

Somalis no absolutely nothing about their history about a thousand year ago let alone 5 thousand much less million of year ago. horte by looking at your map it seem that somalis was probably under water in pre-history, which means that archeologies will probably find a lot of marine fossils. if you were under water in the Cretaceous with abundant marine life, it make the discover of oil in somalia all the more possible. because it correlate with persian gulf and gulf of mexico both rich in hydrocarbons.

To find them you need a good grasp on sedimintology, that is the science of earth itself, and when your able to determine how old a mountain is or a ridge, you dig it's sides and you will find fossils.

that why i don't want a lot of neophytes just digging where ever they please, they would disturb sites, instead bring specialist from oversea to do the research until somalis are skill enough to do it themselves, but that would require a function state that funds archeological digs not usually a top priority of somalis states. on second thought, walaal dig to your heart content maybe you find gems, aquifers, or oil.

Northern Somalia has lots of Canyons which reveals the layers of periods, so its already taken care of!

I bought a 400 page hardcover book that has images of the known fossils, so when I go to Somaliland I could pick up random ish washed by the seasonal river, like 5 million year old sea shells or some shii
