Morality is a contract man has settled with man.
This contract is based on what's good and evil.
In what context? Well, that depends on the scale.
On an individualistic scale, this means acts of evil harm one another.
Lying, killing, stealing, raping, etc. If it can harm an individual, then it's evil in a moral sense as it goes against the moral contract of man, because it harms said man.
On a societal scale, this could, at a certain period of time, mean having kids out of wedlock. It could also mean being lazy and unproductive. This could also mean destroying the environment. This could also mean having radical political views that aim to harm society as a whole.
Morality is simply good and evil, based on what can harm mankind on certain scales.
Religion simply acts as a system that professes to possess this moral code in its entirety. Nothing more, nothing less. Personally speaking, I believe any ideology can do this.
