I think my grandparents invested in Garacad port but personally I am sceptical of its short-term success. Without a major backer that is willing to invest heavily in both Garacad and its port, the area will remain stagnant relative to Berbera until Somalia begins to attract FDI.
Its one thing building a port (a highly commendable feat) but its another thing to build an economy around it. Mogadishu, Bosasso and Berbera are big cities with good transport links and economies.
A very good long term plan for PL would be look towards building a city and port in Hafun. With a modern port, a rebuilt salt factory and tourism industry, the place could become Somalia's go to city in a few decades.
Garacad is connected to Galkayo the biggest town in central Somalia and Turdhibi customs will be a dry dock for DDSI/Ogadenia with wadaagsin road connection to Garacad, DDSI is building Wardheer to Turdhibi customs with many OGs businessmen investing. Garacad was not just built sxb its been 22 year old project with local communities and ddsi communities working together the prospects are very good.
