The Harla, also Harala, were an ethnic group, now extinct, that inhabited Ethiopia andSomalia. They spoke the now extinct Harla language, a language of either the Semitic orCushitic branches of the Afroasiatic language family. They are believed to be ancestors of the Harari and Somali People.
Harla are mentioned in the Futuh al habesha .There is a town called Harla in Oromo region till this day .They were just another Cushitic group who declined in status due to the Oromo expansions after the Ahmad Gragn war .some harla people fled to Somali territory whilst others were killed or assimilated into Oromo clans . The ajuuraan clan was also powerful at one point , but they are also found scattered around the horn , though the decline of Harla is far more mysterious and profound .
