How many Somali families have a present father?

You’re going to have to be more specific than that.
Do u mean a father that is always present and lives in the household, and are you counting those who have passed away. Divorced fathers?

Idk why some Somalis love to push this narrative that we're all fatherless or have deadbeat fathers. This is a bad look for the lurkers that want to know about Somalis and the topics we discuss. Most of us grew up with fathers fyi

Virtually all know who their father is and their father previously lived with them but I'd say 60% don't have fathers in their homes now.

I don't know if it's that high but there is a good number of fathers who are away;

1. Those who 'retire' from fathering duties, leave the children with the mother and move back to Somalia/another country, probably have a second wife.
2. Those who move back to start a business in Africa, may also have another wife.
3. Those who stay in the diaspora to work and send their wife and children to some Arab country to study Islam or Medicine.

A tiny few do the third one. I only know one family that did that and the father was with them.

I'd say most though are due to divorce or their father moving to Somalia to marry a younger woman.

Whatever the number is, it's pretty high. It has to be over to be around 50 %

I wouldn't say tiny, a lot of young Somalis have been studying medicine for the past couple of years, it's become somewhat fashionable to study medicine in Sudan and China and this is usually funded by the father. Even Somalis in Somalia send their children abroad to study Medicine and other subjects.

I think a lot of Somali fathers invest in their children's futures.

Yes there's a bunch of young adult Somalis who go to other countries to study Islam or Medicine or other fields but my experience is that they went alone to study, and not bring their family with them while the father stayed in the west.

Yes, they do go alone but the father or mother pays for this, most diaspora Somalis don't get scholarships.

The vast majority. Most here confuse fathers who act like a money dispensary with single mother households.
