How many Somali families have a present father?

There’s a difference between having a father vs having a absent father. Most girls I know don’t know their fathers well and either don’t seem them often or at all.

How many of the fathers are active teaching their children good principles and values and work ethic? Too little for my liking. Aabo oo waxna ilmahiisa bareenin faciido maleh. Seen this shit too many times. Alhamdulillah I had an active aabo, really made a difference compared to some others.

Virtually all know who their father is and their father previously lived with them but I'd say 60% don't have fathers in their homes now.

A tiny few do the third one. I only know one family that did that and the father was with them.

I'd say most though are due to divorce or their father moving to Somalia to marry a younger woman.

Whatever the number is, it's pretty high. It has to be over to be around 50 %
this is pretty accurate.

Lol @Pwyneth she actually said “those who retired from their fatherly duty” 😂😂

A lot. We don't have bastard children epidemic as much as some certain people will like you to believe.

I have never seen a Somali kid who didn't know their father. Most of us know our abtiris and whole lineage.

Exactly i’m reading these responses and they are way off how are 90% fathers present when we have such high rates of single mother households. A lot of Somalis do have fathers, but they don’t live in the home/ are absent.

A lot of Somali aabos work long hours to provide for their families or work abroad but actual deadbeats are rare. A father who can’t spend much time with their family due to work is the complete opposite of a deadbeat.

Who said that was deadbeat ? But if a dad is always working and not involved in the home emotionally, physically or sitting with his kids checking on them that doesn’t mean they are obeying their role as parent

My abo waa typical Somali abo! Nigga left and got married again! The worst part is that nigga has more than enough money to support us but doesn’t give us shit!!!!! Honestly Men ain’t shit and the first men to break my heart was my abo.

I feel the same walal, I’m the only child of my moms remarriage but my siblings always like to show off how much of a deadbeat my dad is. It really fucks you up especially cause islamically we are meant to take care of them later on and respect them, really fucked up.

Somali fathers when their wife reaches age 40 and the children reach high school.

lol never understood this mentality. My dad plays a big part in my life in my 20s. Marriage, career and family advice are all things young adults need from a father figure.

Same here.

My father has not only been present but deeply involved. There are obviously a lot of Somalis with distant/absent fathers but I think the number is overhyped.

Nearly every Somali I know has a father in their life even divorced, but my dad is more proactive with my brothers than the girls,

Despite the fact that my dad (used to be) a drug addict, (still is) an alcoholic. He is still part of my life so kudos to him.

I think it’s only the self hating Americanized ones . I’ve noticed that a lot westernized Somali women that “swirl” end up single mums. Maybe it’s me
