It’s not too late. Start by talking to your parents in Somali, read Somali news/books. Watch Somali documentaries. Travel back home. Immerse yourself in it. There’s no shame in learning, even if it’s your mother tongue.

It’s admiring that you have a desire to learn and improve. Most ppl don’t have that self-awareness. Gl walaal.

As you can read in the title of this thread I am completely incapable of speaking Af Somali. I understand a few words but my parents who were both fluent in English by the time I was born never really taught me. I live in a white neighborhood in Canada at least an hour away from relatives (also all fluent in english) and I had no need growing up speaking the language. I've already braced myself for the xabashi accusations like our ethiopian friend @Waaqo of Punt. I would love to be able to speak Somali as I feel incomplete without it.

You're bot missing much. Just don't lose tour religion. Maybe your parents wanted to protect you from bs of somalis. Make sure your kids are muslims.don't burden yourself.
