I’m not sure tbh. If I remember correctly Gaas had a degree at Harvard and was nothing special. Bihi Egeh has a Masters from Oxford and he ain’t moving the needle in Xamar either. What are the current options? If it’s the usual, aka Deni, Farmaajo, HSM, Sharif, then we are finished, and I’m tuning out of Somali politics for the foreseeable future. I need someone from the corporate diaspora to take one for the team and run for the presidency. There are multiple individuals in their late 30s who have highly successful careers in the US or UK. We deserve a president that’s an alumini from Cambridge or some Ivy League school.
Most of the best politicians today are locals that stayed. Best case scenario are rich locals, lots of diaspora with degrees go back home, they don’t understand regional/village politics and nobody knows who they are. That’s important for building campaigns.
The difference in post-colonial era politicians and the ones now are that they grew up in Somalia, left to get degrees and came back. So they were only out of the country for max 10 years. The diaspora have been out for over 20+
