I'm pretty sure nucleus called her qaldaan sharmuuta on the other thread. I found that completely disrespectful since the sister is not making money selling her body rather successful on her field.

Is qaldaan a qabil? :ftw9nwa:

Plus there are plenty of successful isaaqs that are admirable, mo farah raage omaar.

I didn't even know she was isaaq. :gnzbryw:

You folks are not getting me ..on her way quest for fame and glory she had deliberately undermined the image of the great somali people )( runtii only 10% are terrible ..warlords ..thieves and murderers ) ...when she's saying I'm the first doctor ( from 12 years ago ..I revised it from 8 to 12), what does that makes us look like ?

Somalida xaasidsana subhanallah

The woman is too busy saving lives she wouldn't give a f*ck what any of you qabiilist think of her.

We have somali doctors but not a lot of them are successful surgeons and pioneers in their field. Be happy for the sister and stop hating on her because of her qabiil.

When I see a isaaq sister doing big things and helping her people like mama Edna Adam .

Ok! Fair enough! Watch how she'll sppear again next year

One thing I appreciate about iman is that she never degrades or belittles her people or her family. I wish this woman would be a little kinder towards the people she's claiming.

STOP hating on Somalis period you self-hating bisexual miyac badan.

How do I hate Somalis when I am the one who brought the story of her being honored at a Black History Month gala later this month?

Wouldn't the hatred be coming from you people who are getting tired of her being mentioned and honored by others outside the Somali community?

@Geeljire I can't find an older article but I just found this one when she got in to med school on somnet.

Walahi you dont know how much i hate this ''First' ''First'' nonsense. Whats the point with describing people as being the first Somali to do X''. Same with Edna Aden who supposedly was the first Somali woman to drive a car or to have a drivers license, im not sure which one it was. But either waay she was way ahead of her time. Striving so hard to appeal to westerners in her way to affirm her own self worth.

Its Gaalorac in its finest , A Somali being first among Somalis is an agenda purely set by Europeans. Gives off the impression that she is different from the rest (her fellow Somalis) and that she is exceptional (for a Somali). Its a very Eurocentric Post Colonial notion that says everything Europe does is what you should strive for and that is the sole trajectory you should follow. What is meant to be developed or a functional person is defined the West. It's a warped view of what Modernity is.

I was going to bring up Iman. I love her but not everyone can be as classy as Iman.

Because in the small city I'm from there's a girl who graduated from a Canadian medical school way before her. Not to mention I know of somalis who re-trained to become doctors(they were in somalia) again before her.

I don't keep track of all the Canadian somali doctors but just off the top of my head I know she isn't the first. I'm sure there are plenty more that I do not know of.
