In my experience they tend to flip-flop between Oromo and Dir depending on where they're from. I think they are probably a confederation but have become Somalized. The ones I met in SL all identify as Somalis though.

From what I understand their sub-clan structure suggest some were recently assimilated in the last few hundred years.
