The FGS is just a US project, part of a trilogy of failed state building projects in the 21st century including Afghanistan and Iraq. I mean technically Somalia hasn't reached the state building stage because it's still in a counter insurgency phase. The reality is the US sees the legitimacy of the FGS as a key in it's counter terrorism war. Somaliland independence would suggest that the FGS lacks credibilty so they don't want to allow even though everyone knows the FGS is a failed institution. The US is simply being retarded in this sense and not showing the wisdom they did when they engaged in successful statebuilding after world war 2 in Germany and Japan and even more broadly in Europe with their marshall plan which cost less than they spent in Afghanistan.

When the dust settles I promise you they will all say it was retarded not to recognize Somaliland.

Seceding from Somalia has allowed them to have better relations with foreign countries and they can act more independently of the FGS than other regions can.
