I cannot think of any Somali national issue that was debated in the public domain as vigorously, and as intelligently, as the London Conference on Somalia. This is the third of such conferences hosted by the United Kingdom ― a role that made her the Big Dog and secured her the most influential position within the international community.

Despite its unflattering colonial record, history of shady deals that is still causing bloodshed in the Horn, the velocity in which it appeared in the Somali political scene and swiftly cultivated political clout, many Somali analysts — this one included — have remained optimistic. Assessing the outcome of the first one, I wrote: “it is fair to say that the outcome of the conference is a mixed bag of positives and negatives, though the former outweighs the latter.”

Ever since then, what transpired was that UK was far from being an honest broker, and it was the principle facilitator of a clandestine economic butchery and security dependency.

The Soma Oil and Gas Model

The earlier London Conferences have secured the deal of the century for Soma Oil & Gas — a politically connected shady British company that was registered in the Caribbean only a few days earlier. A company that neither had the expertise in oil exploration nor had any assets.

In that company’s possession a carte blanche signed in a dark room, spoils that make it virtually the sole owner of Somalia’s oil and gas. Soma Oil & Gas is believed being the source of the ghost funding, or the millions of dollars distributed to buy votes during the parliamentary and presidential elections. Interestingly, Somalia’s current Prime Minister, who also had a special relationship with the previous administration, was Soma Oil & Gas’ Executive Director until he was named for the nation’s top executive position.

UK Driving Motives

On March 15th, British Foreign Minister Boris Johnson went to Mogadishu to personally convince the new President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo to endorse the British framed conference agenda and attend the conference. He made the same appeal to each of the Federal State “Presidents”.

UK is anxiously readying herself for an immanent economic hurricane following Brexit and the Conservative Party lead by Theresa May is eager to duplicate David Cameron’s legacy and zero-sum triumph. The successful delivery of Soma Oil & Gas had international predatory capitalists salivating and marching to the orders of the gatekeeper of the chamber of exploitation.

Second, UK is adamant to sideline Turkey and torpedo its relational and strategic progress in Somalia, mainly by proxy and soft disinformation.

Third, UK is conducting geopolitical brokering camouflaged with Gulf dollars. UAE secured military bases with commercial façade in Berbera seaport in the unilaterally seceded (but unrecognized Somaliland. It also secured a deal in Puntland and is negotiating for more. All independent of the Somali federal government.

An Incredible Architecture

By deliberate design, ignorance or default, the plan unveiled by the so-called National Security Architecture seems nothing more than scheme to keep Somalia dependent on foreign security, if it does not sow the seed of perpetual enmity between clans. There could never be a sovereign Somali state so long as it cannot protect its territories.

As the provisional constitution, clan-based federalism and other existentially propositions designed to undermine genuine progress in Somalia, the Security Architecture is a foreign designed with indigenous façade.

The Federal Parliament Committee on Security asserted its opposition to limiting the Somali national army to 18,000 and its police force to 32,000 due to its unconstitutionality. Dividing the 18,000 equally between six clan-based Federal States strips the central government its exclusive authority to build the national defense, not to mention being tantamount to funding clan militias without integration, national objective or central command.

This will make Somalia the testing ground for the feasibility of the clan-ite model that could be applied on many African nations in the near future. Failed or fragile states could be divided into fiefdoms ruled by alpha clans that are too weak to defend themselves, except when fighting each other. From the exploiters’ perspective, there is no better model.

Opting Out Of All Options

Under internal and external pressures, the new president succumbed to what is known as the path of the least resistance. President Farmaajo had three options: Either to request a moratorium to give the new government time to form and assess its priorities and evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of the agenda, timing, venue, representation, method of implementation, and allocation of resources. Or insisting on hosting the conference in Somalia and involving all appropriate institutions before overhauling the so-called Security Architecture and the rest of the agenda to suit Somalia’s needs. Or boycotting the whole London Conference and all similar powwows that make the new Somali government look like a carbon copy of the one before it. Meanwhile, investing all political capital and traditional, religious, and intellectual resources on a genuine Somali-owned national reconciliation.

Once the internal political tension is somewhat defused, the new government would’ve had a legitimate authority to represent Somalia’s interest with a unified voice and engage each nation individually based on Somalia’s national interest. It is the only viable means to get Somalis to sit behind the steering wheel and drive their nation’s strategic interests.

Inflammatory rhetoric such as “we are in an all-out war against Shabaab” may perpetuate the failed global war on terrorism but it is a self-destructive approach for a new government standing on political quicksand.

Straight Talk

Of course the London Conference is not without a luring carrot. According to the official statement the Conference is set to “agree a New Partnership Agreement between the international community and Somalia” to replace the infamous EU-led New Deal for Somalia.

Unfortunately, as in the New Deal, the New Partnership Agreement would be coming with strings attached. Hundreds of millions of dollars would be extravagantly contracted out to the same usual suspects and their cliques. Sadly, it would not be that difficult to bypass the current government since no Independent Anti-corruption Commission is yet established, no official definition for corruption is offered, and no related policy is yet instituted. And in the next couple of months or so, Transparency International would have its report on corruption out and the rest, as they say, is history.

Despite the prevalence of fake news to build false narratives, the age-old relationship between false premises and false conclusions has never been stronger. The former still result the latter.

So, if your assumption per the London Conference on Somalia is one that is altruistically-driven or that UK is chasing terrorists such as the White Widow who was last seen fleeing to Somalia on a camel, you are in for a memorable entertainment- a ‘now you see it, now you don’t’ magic show.

Against that backdrop, there is only one thing left for President Farmaajo to salvage his nation and his presidency; to do the unthinkable by getting on the stage and kicking up some political dust. All he would need for a speech is a poster with these dozen words: Fool us once, shame on you. Fool us twice, shame on us.

What's very interesting that the huffing-ton post has allowed such an article to go up, giving credence to the wide disagreements among the Anglo Americans on the future of Somalia.

The British position aligns with Ethiopia/Kenya/UAE and is essentially different from America's model, a major clash of interest between the American Exxon mobile that claims to have a 100 year contract against the British Soma Oil (British desperate since Brexit)

The American's don't agree with this 18k clan/federal fiefdom troops which the British/UAE/Kenya/Ethiopia Axis want to keep the Somali government weak, instead they want to train their own private central military like the Egypt model with a strong central governance (refused funding to J/land before)

You then have Turkey on the side line whose model is close to the one of America, the American's fired the first bullet by cutting funding to all the Amisom countries heavily and redirecting a portion of it to Somalia angering the British, this is putting the economies of those countries to the verge of collapse.

The vultures and Heyna's are circling above Somalia, all interest groups are now converging including the Saudi's whom have a different model, this is the time for good strategic leadership

f*ck the UK. Irrelevant little shits, their economy is going to go nuclear after brexit and their second rate government has the audacity to think this is the 19th century?

USA all the way

Walahi this is scary, how do we get out of this dangerous mess? What makes this shit even worse is these stupid regional "presidents" can be bought out for pennies.

They are the smartest colonisers the world has ever seen, their model was unrivalled and controlled billions of people without much troops or fighting, there was no need for it

While the rest were marred in dogfights particularly the French, they would come into a country and empower several rival tribes that hate each other in their own fiefdoms, but no one is given enough power to wipe the other out, they will then become the peace brokers themselves to exploit them.

They rival leaders may hate the British but each one hates his rivals moreso and is scared if they come against the British, their rivals will be given supremacy over them and hence they are always on their toes so the other groups don't out do them in servitude/favours, you have that system set up in Somalia today.

The French however empowered one family/clan and when they got powerful enough which is natural they began to dictate terms which resulted in brutal conflicts, it was the pitfalls of all colonialist except the British whom concocted this system to precisely avoid those kind of problems.

Good luck coming to terms with @waraabe or someone like @Boqor Quark Boqor Cisman whom don't even believe in the very essence of Somalinimo but sees you as the ultimate outcast Tuug and would never trust you.

The British as a last defence would have their spies/informants embedded deep in all fiefdoms as a last layer of defence incase the inevitable does happen so it can very quickly sabotage it. This thinking comes from their past, they were used to these kind of fiefdom systems in their pitless barbaric dark ages.

Each of these is looking out for either his personal interest (the very dumb ones) or the interest of his federal state (the semi dumb one)

They have essentially been checkmated because if they deviate from either all the benefits stop, the local elites are funded to rise up against him whom will take his position, each one of them understands this.

The strategy to get out of this mess since all the power/money lies with them is through Machiavellian tactics, you basically become a munafiq but to do so you gonna need partners of equal foresight to give the illusion of division but working together in the background to infiltrate/consolidate/rise to power. (this is a long process)

The other Machiavellian tactic if you don't have dancing partners is to follow the Erdogan model, he become more Pro EU/NATO/US then the secularist/kemalist that controlled the military and every other institution, this allowed him to win favours from the west whilst fooling them (Kemalist) that he was on their side and hence he slowly cleared out the traitors, his plan began decades before through religious groups infiltrating military/courts etc. (again long-term).

These are just some Machiavellian strategies to escape these predicaments, but it requires a good portion of the population to be awake so they are not duped into overthrowing you, it needs a good strategy with an army of PR people and propagandist.

The quick way of slipping out is through soliciting super powers and that is difficult when the only super power today is against you.

I think the Erdogan strategy is much better than to trust any of these regional "presidents" but the problem with that is Somalia has never had a 2term president, and 4 yrs isn't that much time

Any SNA that is created must be representative of the entire country, it is laughable to say that federal states should have no seat at the table when discussing national defense.

Noting that architecture particularly that which refers to the formation of the national army amounted to a violation of the constitution, the committee warned the composition of the army based on equitable distribution to regional administrations which are established along clan lines risks compromising the integrity and independence of the army.
“Sharing the powers of the Somali National Army (SNA) Commanders with Federal Member State presidents and establishing an army based on clan lines risks creating a tribal force,” the committee said.

Parliament is composed along clan lines, it is hard to see such a body creating a clanism free SNA. What is even more risky is the creation of an SNA with direct legal access to international weapons markets that is representative of a single clan. Any disruption in the balance of power that currently prevails among clans will lead to civil war again. I doubt that an SNA run from Mogadishu will ever willingly establish arms depots in Bari or Nugaal. If an SNA is going to be created, everything must be shared equally among all federal states from command to weaponry, recruitment, bases etc...
Parliament is asking the SNA to become something that it is not which is ridiculous.

Option 3 is the best to be honest. But, there is no real superpower that would help us today. Strongest would be China, but she is allied with Kenya/Ethiopia who would try their best to stop a wadani leader from emerging. Next would be Russia/Iran but she herself is not independent and reliable yet, also our main exports are targeted to the Gulf who are willing to split Yemen up due to the Iran problem, imagine what they would do to us. Third would be Turkey who is too weak.

You won't need a second term, in this plan you virtually become the opposition too, the best way to control an opposition is to become the opposition yourself, this is the model the Europeans use giving the people the illusion of choice so they don't revolt.

Term presidents are just the head of PR in a major company nothing more or less that follows/implements agreed upon blue prints.

All you need is to ensure all your conspirators announce their candidacy after yourself, one of them will win and the process long term plan's continues. :gnzbryw:

The plan needs to include ways to get rid off him if he is in a position of power/influence, he is the type of guys (low self esteem, no national bone) whom the colonialist love and if he win's, it's game over for an entire generation.

They think that they are royalty because they had a Sultanate with a population of 500 people. You simply cannot appease people with such delusions of grandeur. Which country in the world do federal states control the army? Of course, the UK/Ethiopia/Kenya want this so that Somalis become stateless people. The solution to these people is through democracy and referendums I believe. Alhamdulilah, these people although arrogant, are also stupid. They have no real supporters in Somalia either. The Somali people are poverty stricken and all they needs is a government that changes this to garner support. The people in the day, are the key here. Only through empowering them, can a strong nationalist government take over. The diaspora in the end of the day will always support these crooks because they don't actually live in Somalia and feel the effects, the same cannot be said to those back home.

I actually see it as a compliment that British are showing this much interest to Somalia.

They've let their other colonies go but made sure to keep Somalia in the shitter.

Could it be the strategic location Somalia is in or do they still have a grudge from when we almost ruined their East Africa campaign.

Unless Somalia learns how to appease some powerful factions; it will never stand back up on it's own. Too many foreign and domestic interests against it.

He's right you fucking idiots. And your response proved his points are legitimate, because instead of arguing them, you attack his clan immediately. The fact of the matter is that because of shit like this, federalism is the only way forward for the time being. Any major project by the federal government, such as building a national army, must have input and adequate representation from each of the federal states. Otherwise it's doomed to fail, or be misused against a certain region. Actual nationalist feelings amoungst Somalis is very low, so federalism is the only way things can work for now. And I'm talking about real nationalists, not fake ones like you two who make statements like "Aideed should have finished the job." or "Maxamud Saleeban are not real Somalis, they're crypto-jew interlopers who should be expelled."

Federalism could work if Somalia didn't have so many enemies. With each state having a voice and some power to veto or obstruct development; how easy would it be for foreign agents to steer Somalia where it wants?

How do you know there is a lack of nationalist feelings in Somalia? Can't remember there being a poll or a national election that would tell us what Somalis want.

Federalism with it's half a dozen presidents (all invited to the conference) and entourage provide hundreds of inroads for chaos and obstructionism.

No, there hasn't been a poll. I'm merely going by what I've experienced in my life. The vast majority of Somalis (95%) are either outright qabilists, or undercover qabilists. The latter group likes to talk about Somalinimo, but when pressured reveal their clannist views. You haven't been here long, but the two guys I quoted fall under the latter category. The OP talks a big game about Somalinimo, but go read his posts on the clan section of the forum. According to him, Maxamud Saleebans are the great satan, the antichrist, and everything that's wrong with Somalia. He even goes as far as to state that they're not real Somalis and should be expelled. As you can guess, he's a Sacad HG. Apparently Somalinimo is all about carrying the same clan grudges. If that's his 'Somalinimo' he can shove it up his ass. We don't want it.:icon lol:

The scars of the civil war and deep and recent. They haven't healed, and there's been no effort to heal them. The only way forward is to have some sort of reconciliation process where the crimes of the civil war are addressed in an open and honest matter. Until then, there can be no real nationalist feeling or a strong central government. And trying to force it. to bring the various federal states into line, will only cause another civil war.
