Misogyny in mosques: Are we back in the Jahiliyyah era?

Before anyone comments, I only want responses from women. Otherwise, I would have posted in the general section. Please refrain from adding your two cents if you are a man.

A woman was denied iftar at a mosque solely because of her gender. They couldn't even extend the grace to offer her a cup of water or dates.

The mosque posted a response on Instagram but took it down when people started tagging local news outlets.

First of all, why do some Muslim men misquote Hadiths to support a specific narrative? While it's true that women can receive the same rewards for praying at home, this does not mean that praying at home is always obligatory. It is a matter of grace. Muslim women are often responsible for cooking, cleaning, and caring for children, and we thank God that our religion is merciful by not requiring us to go to the mosque. However, it is still an option. It’s convenient how people overlook the Hadith that says, "Do not prevent women from their share of the mosques" (Sahih Bukhari 900). It is very clear what these men are doing is haram. By misquoting Hadiths to stop women from attending places of worship, they are gatekeeping the religion, and this behaviour is both harmful and ignorant.

Oxford mosque also had the audacity to respond by saying, "Please continue your support and donate generously." But ask yourself, who has been working hard to prepare over 300 meals for iftar for the past 10 years? And which group of people usually donates to mosques? The answer is women. Muslim men expect women to contribute so much, yet they deny them basic rights and representation at every level. It’s telling that, as soon as people began tagging news outlets, they took down the Instagram post. Mosques in the West depend on Western laws and values to build their institutions, so they understand the importance of this. Yet, when it comes to Muslim women, they are willing to disregard these values.

Fortunately, Oxford mosque is located in the West, where laws protect women. This is not their home country, household or culture, so they cannot impose cultural practices in places where women have fought for their rights. They will face consequences because sexism is illegal in the UK. This is why Muslim women should not feel offended when misogynistic men label them as "feminists." This is not an insult, it is an honour. These women have fought hard to ensure their rights are protected, and while it’s not perfect, it’s something. We should follow their example and stay on code. We must refuse to visit, support, or donate to any institution that denies women their rights and representation. This applies both in the west and back home.

Senator Saredo Jeyte said it very clearly a while back and her words will always remain relevant.

Have we ever left Jahiliya? Since the advent of Islam, these knuckle-dragging, insecure, jaahils have made up all sorts of reasons and ways to abuse and marginalise women. They have inherited the earth and set up a twisted patriarchy wherever possible. They are united with their non-Muslim brethren in their evil and are very proud of it. In fact, we all witnessed so-called Muslim men try to be the loudest misogynists and even welcome sex criminals such as the Ta-te brothers into the fold of "Islam".

The only time they talk about the rights of women in Islam, is when they debate non-Muslims, it's just lipservice and posturing. In reality, we all know what really goes on. Of course not all Muslim men are cavemen, not all men either, but from what we see of the so-called Muslim world, the 'good men' are weak, small in number or just cowardly. Meh.

I don't even let them anger me anymore. I just know they will boil in hell, as Allah SWT is just and will not let the powerful get away with abusing weaker people.

Enjoy your patriarchy. Enjoy earth.

Women cook the food, donate most of the money yet these mosques don’t want to accommodate them lol. Build your own mosques.. that’s the best way to deal with this, not beg for inclusion

Women should stay home and take care of their household duties. Leave politics to men, stop crowding us.

Might sound petty but sexism coming from men who are .. inadequate just sounds extra ridiculous. A group of men who’s own safety is in the hands of another group of men can not talk like this to women, labadeena wana la ilaaliya 😶

You sound emotional and unhinged. You're not making any sense. You just proved my point.

These are Hindi mosques btw. And to be fair to Hindi men, they actually do cook for large gatherings and they donate. Somali masjids also have women's sections in Europe from what I have seen.

There is some cultural bias and also madhab differences here.

Do you struggle with reading comprehension? I specifically said don’t comment if you aren’t a woman. This is the women’s den, see yourself out.

Insecure/inadequate men love nothing more than to try to bully women. They can't compete with other men no matter how many protein shakes they drink. It's an internal sickness.
Exactly. I’ve noticed insecure/inadequate men love to force their opinions onto us as if we care. There’s a reason why I added a disclaimer and put it in the women’s den. I’m frankly not interested in hearing the “other” perspective on this. I will not be baited into a long back and forth about why denying iftar based on someone’s gender is right. They need to keep their thoughts confined to themselves or their inner circle.

Let me guess: it's Pakistanis? my mosque was run by a Sudanese sheikh who gave iftar to both men and women.
