Ethiopia will recognise somaliland before signing of the deal for the simple reason that it will give it legal cover. You know the issue of recognising a country or not is a bilateral issue, that is why you here of countries recognising Taiwan and then unrecognising it again after being enticed by China. So recognising somaliland before signing the deal will give Ethiopia the legitimacy of signing with a partner country. A lot of somalis don't understand matters dealing with recognition. They confuse it with a seat in worldy institution like the United nations where you need not a veto from any permanent security Council member. So you can have a country that is recognised as a country and dealt with as such and not being a member of the UN, kosovo, Taiwan and the such. And this countries exchange full diplomatic relations and enter into binding agreements with recognising countries.

Difference is SL doesn’t control all the territories it claims while those other countries do. The only way SL will get complete control is through war, but global support for SL hinges on it being more peaceful than Somalia. SL lost a lot of goodwill with the international community after what happened in Las Anod, and more violence will just further damage SL’s image

I don't think Somaliland needs to control those territories. They will just function like Somaliland does now.

I don’t want to sound like a crazy man saying this, but some Ethiopian troops help out. Like in SWS they keep the current gov away who have been hostile towards laftagareen. Laftagareen would surely have assassination attempts on him like Qoorqoor who survived 4, same for gedo and them getting bombarded by kenya. Their issues would be worse with no Ethiopian troops
