My Somali school curriculum

j&jenterprises

A landheere always pays his debts
MainCurriculum:
- Somali script (Osmanya)
- Kitab Al-Faraid (Inheritance and Basic Algebra)
- Kitab Al-Muqqadimah (Principles of Social Sciences)

Once a student has these fundamentals (basic literacy, basic mathematics, theoretical understanding of social sciences) they can then extend their studies. Having this strong foundation instills confidence, ability to specialise and good balance of theory/practical learning. The reason I am so specific with the Kitabs is because I am thinking about setting up an institution that covers these books, imo it covers both Western preference of learning (abstract secular learning) and our classical Islamic preference of learning (rooted in always learning to understand from the POV of Islam).

I would like to use the Islamic ways of teaching but also mix it with western and Eastern ways of learning to give somalis various viewpoints to study certain subjects

Also there should be classes which teach you good manner according to the prophet and the sahaba. This would be for younger students.

I'm not using MJ script I've learned better we are making a whole new language
Well I hate the latim script for somali and far wadaad seems alright.
I had an afar friend in Djibouti who showed me his papers he wrote in afar using the ge ez script but I'm not gonna consider it unless the rest of the cushitic languages fully adopt it.
But I also don't wanna invent a new script in my basement and make somalis look like some illiterate camel herders

Yes, an earlier comment talked about students cleaning their school no?
That should be used aswell.
Many things such as girls learning sewing or boys being forced into mandatory gym sessions (real ones not the bs here) to build up skills and discipline

Exactly. Let’s ask ourselves: Why do we have an inferiority complex within education where we have to copy our colonial way of learning? Audre Lorde has a good saying: You cannot use the masters tool to destroy the masters house. We cannot use Western tools (for e.g. democracy or secular studies) and believe we can fundamentally change the system that was brought in by the colonisers. Now radicalism doesn’t necessarily mean right, however altering the system from ground-up with tools such as changing our educational system from not being one that is obsequious to the West to having our own defined model is a start. One that fills us with confidence that replicating the West doesn’t mean success, success is your own path. I believe it was Dostoyevsky who said: To go wrong in one's own way is better than to go right in someone else's. Let us do that with education is my thing.

Watch the liberals come here and tell us your sexist.
There is no such things as liberals in the great and noble land of poets.
The facts are thay men and women have different roles and could benefit from having specialised classes to assist them in future life

Exactly, I was also debating with my habesha friends irl in college a few days ago about how we are a completely different society from the west yet we import their political system that is incompatible with our societies.
I think I gave @Somali Ugaas a run down on how the politic system we envision for somalia in the future
