The Conservative Party " Muxaafid محافظ " was the most dominant party in the UK, especially in recent decades.




Conservatives in Arabic is called Muxaafid " محافظ " .
The opposition in Arabic is called Mucaarad "معارضة".

Since the British Conservative Party "Muxaafid محافظ" has been in control of the government in the United Kingdom for the past few decades,
the British Labour Party has been in opposition "Mucaarad معارضة".

Since the Kulmiye Party has long controlled the government of Somaliland,
the Kulmiye Party is known as the conservative party " Muxaafid محافظ " .

and since then the Waddani Party " الحزب الوطني" has been in opposition.
so the Waddani Party is known as the opposition party
"Mucaarad معارض".

I think the use of the term ‘conservative’ to translate the word into English is a poor choice which is what causes confusion. They aren’t using conservative in the western sense, but more so they are trying to say conservative as in trying to conserve their hold on power.

For example, you would never say the dems were the Conservative Party but in this use of the word that is the logic being utilized. Kamala would be the conservative ‘muxaafid’, Donald Trump just won the election , he would be mucaarad but in reality he is a staunch conservative and leader of the right wing conservative GOP while Kamala is a liberal democrat.
