Another thing that I found interesting was a question I have always had, and which the author highlighted. Why hasn't Puntland declared full independence like Somaliland? Why are they still playing along with the idea of a nation state under a federal government?
"The continuing overall peace remained an essential factor in the northeastern situation, and led many to want to follow the example of Somaliland and proclaim formal independence[107] But this was impossible because of the continued involvement of the Majerteen in the destiny of the related Harti clan further south, as we will see in the next section."
If my understanding Is correct could it be the reason why you guys dont declare independence is because of Ogadeen/MJ in the Kismayo/Jubba region? If you declared independence they would be left alone with the majority hawiye government in Xamar?
So is it possible you guys are only for independence if Jubbaland also gets independence and is led by Harti?
Or you support the idea of a national state because potentially a national state incorporating Jubbaland/Puntland/a potential Khatumo state with a Harti leader is an even greater benefit than splitting into a independent regional one clan state? Btw not saying it can't be for wadani/somalinimo reasons...just wondering about this other angle to it.
