I was recently talking to a friend about geljirees / geelraacs and was genuinely curious do these people lack education in basic Islamic knowledge .ie. Quran Seerah and so on .


I know at some point geljirees or Somalis in general were pretty much ignorant or very loose when it came to the deen .

I know for a fact that they’re the master of the language ( Somali ) and pretty well versed when it comes to poetry .

Either Somalis on reddit or here say they’re crazy ignorant or these people are very good memorisers .

Yes They memorise the whole quran but thats about it, they dont know fiqh or hadiith or siira or anything besides cultural tradition
They dont even know proper tajwiid but the recitation still sound nice

saxiib the average Muslim nowadays is only well versed in the Quran and rarely are knowledgeable in fiqh, Hadith and maybe Seerah . A lot of people might have surface knowledge on these topics .
