It is not necessarily about being detail oriented or working as a collective. There is a concept called time discounting which is the relative valuation places on receiving something earlier than later. Which in context of money, naturally means that your returns are lower.

As individuals, we do not delay gratification. You know the Stanford marshmallows where they put a marshmallow in front of children and give them the option to eat the one in front of them now, or receive two when the observer returns? Africans are the kid that immediately eats the marshmallow. Having a low time discount (waiting) has been proven to lead to better economic prosperity which Africans/Blacks lack and that erodes everything. From your status in the world, the prosperity of your children and down to your confidence.
Would you say this explains the rampant corruption in Somalia?

I already posted something like this on another thread so I don’t want to retype all of it so I’ll try to keep this short and sweet.
So I noticed the difference between cadaan, asians, and Africans as a people is that the former two are detail oriented people. The focus on the fine lines and dot their Is and cross their Ts. Africans tend to only look at the large picture and the final result. They don’t care to spend too much time and what they deem as a useless details. Take a look at the average Japanese persons home and compare it to an African person’s...

The detail oriented person thinks through every possible angle of their day to day life. and when they come together they make sure everything has its place, the traffic will be organized, the city will be clean and low in crime...

my point is, somalis don’t have the detailed mindset...they only think if the “final product”. One thing I noticed somalis have an unhealthy obsession with is the government. So many somali people love and follow farmaajo and they won’t be able to name a single thing he has done to be so glorified. (I’m not blaming him because I don’t think the president should take the role of a zookeeper) for them it’s enough that someone waves a blue flag and sounds “wadani” in their speech:rolleyes:. You guys take it from me, as I learned this life lesson the hard way, nothing and I mean NOTHING in this world gets accomplished when you rush to get to an end product with little thought lol, or when you focus too much on the gross details. Life is in the finer details, it’s like I said, dotting your Is and crossing your Ts! The solution to Somalia’s problems is not the next government or a nice sounding speech that would motivate losers. They just need to learn how to take pride in their cities/towns/neighborhoods as much as they take interest in these useless politicians. The benefits would be more community cohesion, innovation, healthy competition, economic growth, lower crime rates, decrease in terrorism etc. and it can all start with keeping the streets free from trash and rubble

(I’m sorry if this seems really jumbled lol, I’m terrible at writing long blocks of speech)
If you point out the issues and problems that Somalia has people will call you a self hater whose making his country look bad somalis dont wanna hear the ugly truth 2ndly people should be wary about listening to somali politicians they take out a huge salary while living in comfort when the soldiers who fight for the country earn 100$ a month

Yes and no. I think corruption in and of itself is separate, but closely related. The inability to delay gratification may lead to corruption, but not necessarily. It does however explain the type of corruption in Somalia. They're not for example building a legitimate industry up and monopolizing through means of corruption. Instead they'll take whatever gives them the fastest returns on their position of authority to turn as quick a buck possible. Usually this means enabling the exploitation of your country to outside interests. Russia and the Equatorial Guinea are both deeply corrupt, but one is significantly more depressing and less dignified than the other.

Evolutionary, we never had the need to sweat over the small details.

Africa is far too bountiful and even in the arid Somali landscape we had enough pasture to live happily and that's all that was needed...

However Asia and Europe was overcrowded and resources were limited so they had to be more competitive and resourceful in order to survive.

Unfortunately, by now those adaptions are mostly genetic....

The OP said Asian and European countries are more detailed oriented then African countries. The OP used a country an Asian country like Japan and then used an African country like Somalia.

The OP he/she went on to criticize Somalia’s shortsightedness. If we take the emotion aspect out and look objectively the OP isn’t wrong nor is it racist rhetoric.

It’s a tough pill to swallow but if we can’t be honest with ourselves how are we supposed to move forward?
But to make vast generalizations critiquing the intellectual abilities of large groups in of itself is racist and the questioning of black people's intelligence was historically and even currently is used to justify violence against us. There are plenty of racists that will justify the injustices black Africans face because to them we are subhuman. I won't tolerate people here or anywhere disrespecting black people's intelligence and humanity since humanity and intelligence are linked.
eugenics? nazis? iq? :mindblown: do people here read? I'm literally just advocating for people to become more detail oriented... it's a personal/ cultural issue not some darwin racial bs:snoop:
Don't constrict this discourse to you innocently critiquing somali peoples 'short-sightedness'. This was a clear attack on our intelligence. When you say people aren't detail-oriented what you really mean is that we are unaware and unable to focus and these two qualities are often used to determine intelligence. We know what euphemisms are and how they're used. Whether it's intentional or not is all you can argue because what you said was in direct support of the nazi rhetoric that black people are gentically inferior to other races.

this is where if you can't be humble, its best to just disappear...you tried to act like you knew something, but ending up embarassing yourself, and still you continue to embarass yourself. your high school sociology class doesn't apply here

1) I don't take sociology I read books.
2) I don't feel embarrassed for defending my people from you dehumanizing us. I don't feel embarrassed for defending other black people either. If you are insecure in your morals that's your problem, not mine, stop making disgusting sweeping generalizations about Somali people. We are individuals and won't take nicely to being treated as a monolith through your close-minded statements.

In my opinion It seems you just want to play the racist narrative that’s fine i respect that as it’s your opinion at the end of they day. We just seem to have differences of opinions.

My perspective is there’s some truth to what the OP says even though it’s not what we may like to hear

OP said all Somalis are short-sighted but you cannot say an entire demographic is this or that because we are all individuals with different traits.
It's okay that we have different opinions but what exactly do you mean when you say we need to recognize our 'short-sightedness' to improve our country?
Even if this generalization was true, a single trait can't make or break a country.
