In Western Europe, people still view Eastern Europe as a barbaric backwards place and not part of ''the real Europe''.

Although the last few years with the development of Czechia and Poland this view has gone in the decline, but still lingers.

It's funny how wealth changes perception. If in 2050 Scotland leaves the UK, joins the EU and becomes wealthier than England, I'd expect to see a narrative of how the Scottish are actually culturally Scandinavian and a more productive people than the bloodthirsty and tyrannical English

Why don't you include the part about Gaddafi supporting the IRA? He made himself a target by being so reckless; also, he made Libya vulnerable by inextricably marrying Libya's fate to his own -- like all self-centred dictators.

An institution (rather than individual) based political system would be significantly more difficult to demonise, isolate or attack; to this end, anti-Western rhetoric-speeches and military parades should not have featured at all.
