Yeah but it would be like some Sudanese and eastern Mediterraneans adopting Egyptian gods because of high trade with Egypt.

Somalis could make idols out of anything like all other people in the world. But ancient Somali didn't as their god waaq was supposed to be of the sky and not personified within a man/woman/creature like other pre Abrahamic religions in the world. Ancient somalis prayed to the sky and not to any statue or geographic area.

Wikipedia isn’t a source. Waaq being the Oromo word for god doesn’t mean that Somalis would use the same word when it just means heaven in Somali.

Somali and Oromo are from totally different branches of lowland Cushitic, this is like the gap between Italians and Russians.
