serious question, do you ever see somalia becoming developed in 20 or 30 years?

No. Somalia will not be a developed country in 30 years. It will probably not even be a lower middle income country in 20 years.

If Somalia manages to have a:
  1. GDP growth rate of 6.5%
  2. Population growth rate of 2.6

With a GNI per capita of $590 today, it would have a GNI per capita of $1,244 in 20 years (2044) and $1,806 in 30 years (2054). The current threshold for lower middle income is $1,146. In 20 year's time we will be where Tanzania is today and in 30 years where Nigeria is now.

btw no country in Africa has ever sustained a 6.5% GDP growth rate for 30 years.

I followed Somali politics for a year, and it’s a total mess. Nothing can be achieved by people who don’t fear God and have no integrity .

If it continues this way, the country will never develop. If anything, it will eventually split because this whole unity thing doesn’t work.

Everyone in charge only looks out for themselves, positioning themselves for the future. By the time the country develops to any extent, massive inequality will exist.

So yeah, Allah gave me a beautiful life in London to live once, and I’m not about to waste it concerning myself with a country that wants to stay broken, like the previous generation did. I'll visit Mogadishu here and there but that's it

I could agree with you but then we’d both be wrong

Somalia will forever be a poverty stricken backward country if it continues on this path.

But things can improve immediately if the following conditions are fulfilled:

  1. Change the capital, move it up North, preferably in an empty land.
  2. The constitution should be finished in a broad consensus by all political stakeholders. Other laws such as; taxation, financial systems, currency, resource sharing laws etc shall be extensively discussed and agreed upon by all parties involved. These laws will be in place for the foreseeable future and it can virtually end this cycle of turmoil. States are the plenary sovereigns, each with their own constitution, while the federal sovereign possesses only the limited supreme authority enumerated in the Constitution. Indeed, states may grant their citizens broader rights than the federal Constitution as long as they do not infringe on any federal constitutional rights. The supreme court shall upheld the constitution and any leader who violate the constitution shall be impeached and punished under federal law.
  3. Broad tribal and communal reconciliation. This step can only be taken once the elite political stakeholders reach a conclusive political agreement such as completion of the constitution and agreeing on the rest of State and federal laws.
  4. Strong military and Police force. This can only be formed once the second and third steps are taken and the entire country is at peace. The trust has returned and people are once again happy to lay their arms and fully depend on their armed and police forces. Guns and rifles are strictly prohibited from the general population thus massively reducing deaths caused by gun violence.
We can be the richest country in Africa if we fulfill our potential and we'll never reach our potential if agreed upon rules and regulations are not in place.

Allah is the most benevolent, the most merciful, the most wise, and the most gracious. Allah can change any condition as long as you have hope and be righteous. Inshallah I have lots of hope that Somalias condition will change. Many times in history we thought stuff was impossible and made a mockery of it. But verily with Allah it was done.

My parents city was razed to the ground during the Ethiopian - Somali war. They lost homes, they lost families, livelihoods, and land. They lost everything. But yet this still continue to work hard and rebuild life. That hometown that I lived in many years ago has changed considerably. Paved roads and electricity. The government has done nothing for them this all because of the efforts of the Somali people. We have seen it in history even with the threat of annihilation the Somalis have continued to keep their language and soldier through. Therefore I have great hope for my people and Inshallah we will keep growing. Even it is a slow growth I am still satisfied. I'll have hope till the day I die LOL.

Probably not which is really unfortunate. The diaspora will have a hard time ever going back permanently, therefore our descendants will eventually assimilate. The Somali diaspora as we know it, will cease to exist in a few generations

Before ya'll wallow in self pity, remember that half the population in Somalia is under 30.

Cultural change (the #1 thing we NEED) can happen much faster than it used to thanks to the internet
