It's a little odd to me. The concept of baati parties is nice but I really like the west african versions of baati. They're beautiful. I don't see why they'd do this.

Because Somali women are not wearing West African dresses. The truth is, when they wear Somali clothes, they are inspired by how Somali women look whilst wearing it.

NONE of them ever had 'baati parties' or wore it at home like that. Except for the ones who more recently adopted our clothes in East Africa. But even they didn't post about "baati parties" or wore it outside of their homes in the Western hemisphere.

That's why I am less annoyed, because I've not seen any group outshine Somali girls in their attire. Often, it looks sloppy, weird and items are missing.

I wish they all knew how beautiful and regal they looked in their own clothing.

They want the beauty of our somali culture but won’t acknowledge who they’re imitating. They admire the culture but feel insecure and resentful that they like it. They want what our culture has. Haven’t you noticed every time Somali girls are respectful and ask for credit they get defensive?

Admitting they’re copying us means they’re acknowledging the fact that they look up to us in terms of influence and it means they’re uplifting our culture. They don’t want to do that. Admitting it also means they can’t pretend that they’re better than us anymore.
