I don't think you've been to the north xD I'm not familiar with the south, khat is sadly entrenched into our society like coffee, killers have always had to answer to Xeer Aji be it death/blood price or excommunication your life is free game if you run.

Somali society is not secular at all. We just have slightly diffrent gender norms than the arab world. Nobody in somalia is doing some of the wild stuff you see upper class people in the arab world do. But at the same time somalis have never had this culutral of khwala( female seclusion inside the home) . It's why even though somali culture can be considered somewhat patriarchal . Women are more "free" in a sense than in large parts of the Muslim world

I think it’s because due to being outside their Muslim country/environment somali parents will try more harder and be stricter with children bcuz they are in western country

What does secularism have to do with hijab, dating or niiko? Or ’acting rowdy’ as a woman (whatever the hell that means)

There is no punishment for such acts in Quran and Sunnah, that I know of

Corruption & murder are halal in the eyes of the state & the people though..

Hahaha.

I was shocked about the reality of the Somali society.

I lived in Arabs county for the most of my life and when people ask about my ethnicity I tell them I'm Somali, suddenly they start to praise us and how religious we are like we are saints.

Like they say " oh the Somali women's all wear hijab/niqab, oh the majority of the Somali people memorize Quran, oh the Somali people use sharia".

And tbh I had this view until I met some brothers from Somalia and when I told them this they shattered my pragmatic view into a view of only following religion out of culture not out of belief
