Even that, it is a local government iftar event. The people in government many being diaspora originally themselves are not exactly representative of the country let alone Mogadishu.

This is a unique and small segment of people, you likely will not find an example of something like this outside government events for government employees which this event was.

The only thing somalis in Somalia do properly in islam compared to other ethnicities is prayer and women wearing hijab. Other aspects of the religion somalis can be considered as secular

Somalis in Somalia are only "secular" when it comes to praying and flirting. They wouldn't wear the hijab as well if most weren't nappy headed.

Otherwise, they're more strict than ibn Taymiyah for everything else.

this idea comes up because people think muslim countries are some sort of religious fantasy land where no one commits sin, mainly from diaspora kids who've never left the west. Go to Pakistan, somalia, senegal , morroco, oman or any islamic country you can think of and only in regions controlled by literal terrorist organisations are the salafi code followed to a tee

these nation's are all still very Islamic and not secular at all, but in diaspora eyes for some reason "back home" = men and women don't even see each other unless you're family, your head get's chopped off if you miss salah etc etc

We shouldn't generalise that all somalis are secular that is not the case here.

Somalia is the way it is due to social media women and men tend to imitate the filthy actions that non-muslims do especially on Tiktok.

Some somalis understand the dangers of freemixing but others excuse it by saying "gabartaan walashey waaye" or "wiilkaan walaalkeyga waaye"

Somali society in Djibouti is secular, rest of Somaliweyn is pretty conservative (SL,Ethiopia, & Somalia). Don't know much about Kenyan Somalis but I have heard some decadent stuff does occur in Nairobi's Somali community.

All Muslim diaspora that move to Islamic countries get a wake up call because it’s never what there expecting in there fantasy,

it’s the same as the west just with Islam as state religion and poverty and backwardness, and people just hide the fun more
