Somalia’s oil exploration to conclude by April 2025, signalling potential economic boom

The biggest change oil revenue will bring . Is that it will make somali politicians more ambitious. Now that they have money to do what they want instead of being reliant on foreign countries.

I dont think people realize how much this will change thr political calculus of future president's. Before their hands were ultimately tied since without money how will you go against ajanaabis who fund your govt

I think some of you get a weird type of pleasure out of the idea of somalia never improving and the people never being able to hope for a better future. It's honestly quite disgusting.

It’s self hate mixed with them being losers in their own life 💀 Nothing far worse than a self hating loser. They haven’t done anything good in their life so they want everyone else to be as shit as them. An improvement will be made then they will say that no improvement was made. They will then change their tune and say that the change was not sufficient enough. If you hate being Somali and hate everything related to it just relinquish yourself from ever speaking on it. Like no one has forced you here. I hate doomers. They’ll actively say something is impossible and that you won’t be able to do it then when you do it they are mum.

Somalia isn't poor or in this bad condition because of money. It's because of the filthy leaders we have. No one will want to improve his country when their leaders are robbing them

Massive amounts of lobbying. The decline of foreign interests dominating political candidates, greater autonomy, still corrupt but as someone mentioned before politicians will be more ambitious

Just look at Nigeria…
Nigeria isn't really a good example. Neither is Angola or really any of the major oil producing african countries. These countries all began oil production in the 60s. Do you know what africa was like in the 60s ? Basically nobody lived in cities forget about running water or electricity. Probably no more than 5- 10% of the pouplation in these countries had even gone to primary school at this time. Or were even literate

Compared to somalia in 2025 where basically several times better on all of these metrics from literacy to urban pouplation to acess for water and electricity. Even our infrastructure as shitty as it is is simply not comparable to africa in the 60s

Yes but I meant the oil didn’t really make a difference for them, and I highly doubt it will make a difference to the life of the average Somali.

It actually made a huge difference for them. Basically till 10 years ago. 90% of govt revenue in Nigeria was from oil. So from the 60s always till like the 2010s everything built or done by the govt in Nigeria was through oil money. It's impossible to imagine how much worse everything in Nigeria would be without oil money. They even fought a war in the 60s and killed a bunch of igbo to prevent them from leaving Nigeria since that was where the oil was produced.
