I think he's a textbook example of a good diplomat but a lousy politician. His actions as the interim PM sparkled the clan elements in the civil war. He made a speech and called for the government armies to surrender to the rebel groups and specifically mentioned USC and SNM, leaving out the Darod rebel groups as SPM and SSDF. Yeah, the guy spoke fluent Arabic too. Seems like the calibre of our diplomats was top tier at the time.

I found this video quite fascinating. Here is the Somali foreign Minister at the time, Cumar Arteh Ghalib, who was travelling to Kenya to mediate a dispute between Uganda and Tanzania.

I've also read Somalia joined the Arab league under his ministership. Even though I disagree with that decision to join, you can clearly see from the way he speaks he is a political heavyweight, who could run circles around the dameers we have running Somalia today.
