Somaliland In Economic Collapse

He said Berbera port and Wajaale dry port revenues are way down, the port suffered a massive decline as commercial traders offload their goods elsewhere. Waaheen market fire and Laascaanood war exacerbated the problem to the degree that they're cutting salaries and stopping projects.

That is cost of war. It slowly trickles down to everything including the economy, which is expected but not accounted for, if both sides were smart enough they would let this go by now. It will only get worse before it gets better.

At least there’s a lot of ‘ghost’ security budget. If Bihi is smart he can cut expenses while still improving post performance. Time for anti-corruption drive, needs must

There was always an assumption on the part of Somaliland that the Berbera-Addis corridor would have Hargeisa as the node of trade in Somali inhabited parts of the corridor. I have been following the development of Jigjiga closely for a couple of years, and it seems to me that much of the investment that was expected to take place in Hargeisa has gone to Jigjiga.

Jigjiga is to Hargeisa what Nairobi is to Mogadishu. It has rule of law, banks, courts, better infrastructure etc.. Somaliland was unable to create these things over the past 32 years, Jigjiga is piggybacking off Ethiopia's established systems.

Jigjiga will have overtaken Hargeisa as the secondary node in the Addis-Berbera corridor before the end of this decade, if Ethiopia does not collapse. It is already nearly as large as Hargeisa in land area terms.

The minister stated the tax on business activities is drasticly down due to several local factors including war in Las anod but it is bit overdramatic to equate that to economic collapse. SL has active and resilient economy which will bounce back.

It is important to be aware that there is worldwide economic uncertainty and downturn due to inflation in place like Sri lanka, Lebanon, UK, europe, USA and china. Sl and rest of Africa are not immune.

SL is not like PL which is reliant on a grant which can be withheld by Somali government.

Also costs of conflict ln Las anod are much more onerous on Jabertis and as they are crowdfunding the conflict including Qaat, liqour and Weed needed by their militias in LA

This war is God sent for Biixi, Waraabe and the Wadani leader(forgot the name) were on his throat before the conflict. Now they can't speak against him and his two year extension might turn into four.

I actually believed Biixi loved Somaliland and was expecting him to be much more brutal and actually to deploy the heavy weaponry to level down Lascaanood. But it seems he is only interested in prolonging this conflict and making sure to label any opposition as "terrorists" and "qaran dumis". People with military background should never be allowed to become politicians they seriously lack diplomatic prowess, political cunning and long term vision. While good politicians see war as the last resort, to the generals it is the first and only one.

I would've paid massive bribes and made sure to label this as an inter Dhulbahante conflict and obviously done the necessary preparations (completely cut off Lascaanood) so that SL would be seen as the only reliable mediator.

On the other hand reer Lascaanood were expecting to be paid for their loyalty I seriously don't think they were expecting Biixi to deploy the army. But their miscalculation has resorted in the deaths of so many and it is only the beginning, reminds me of Ukraine and their retarded politicians used by the Americans to cripple the EU.

If SL wins
-No more need to engage in Sii Soco Soo Soco polics.
-Step closer to completely integrate Dhulbahante into SL project.

If reer Lascanod win
-More autonomy
-Integration into PL ports
-More funding from FGS.
