The first two reasons for independence are good enough for me.


1. We gained Independence in the 1960s, and for a brief moment we were independent with British-Somaliland borders.

- Just to add on from this point, it's not like we were a united people before this. This argument would be bad if we were united before, became independent briefly, and then joined willingly. The reality is, the unity is the odd one out.


2. We voluntarily joined so we can voluntarily leave,

The icing on the cake for me is that real actual unity was only for 30 years, Somaliland has been de facto independence for 25 years and that's not including the years of civil war previous to it declaring independence. This is just beating a dead horse at this point. Soon Somaliland would have been de facto independent for the same amount of time, and then longer than it was unified with Somalia. I think it's getting ridiculous tbh.


Somaliland and Somalia can be brotherly neighbours. We don't need full political unity. It's unnecessary for both of our wellbeing and development. I think the Somalia Federal Government should have a referendum with international observers for Somaliland, then there should be negotiations about the western borders, and then we should go our separate ways while keeping ties. Personally I think this is the best case scenario and what should be enacted. At the end of the day, you can't force unity and Somaliland said 'We want out' quite emphatically.

Why would a referendum in Somaliland with international observers to settle the issue of whether or not the people want independence be null and void?
