I'm a staunch pro Somaliweyn pan somali nationalist but I also try to put myself in the shoes of those who disagree with me.
I really can't understand what Somaliland is trying to obtain by arresting unionists like coldoon and persecuting those who wave Somalia's flags and symbols in Somaliland. It doesn't make any sense.
Let's analyze the issue with some facts:
1)Isaaqs in Somaliland are overwhelmingly pro separstism
2) Dhulbahante are majority unionist but their leaders chose to compromise with Somaliland
3) unionism in Somaliland is basically an unpopular idea that poses no actual threat to Somaliland
4) the international community is watching closely and considers Somaliland to be a democratic country, if the western media starts to acknowledge the anti unionist repression this could hurt somaliland chances of becoming a recognized country.
So why is somaliland acting so emotionally and irrationally? Why risk all the good PR they got in the last 30 years only to go after individuals who have little to no political power to threaten Somaliland? If unionists in SL could speak freely it would only increase somaliland chances of recognition since they could use this to say they are truly democratic even with those who oppose somaliland's independence
