OPINION Somaliland shouldn't arrest unionist because it hurts the separatist cause

I'm a staunch pro Somaliweyn pan somali nationalist but I also try to put myself in the shoes of those who disagree with me.
I really can't understand what Somaliland is trying to obtain by arresting unionists like coldoon and persecuting those who wave Somalia's flags and symbols in Somaliland. It doesn't make any sense.
Let's analyze the issue with some facts:
1)Isaaqs in Somaliland are overwhelmingly pro separstism
2) Dhulbahante are majority unionist but their leaders chose to compromise with Somaliland
3) unionism in Somaliland is basically an unpopular idea that poses no actual threat to Somaliland
4) the international community is watching closely and considers Somaliland to be a democratic country, if the western media starts to acknowledge the anti unionist repression this could hurt somaliland chances of becoming a recognized country.
So why is somaliland acting so emotionally and irrationally? Why risk all the good PR they got in the last 30 years only to go after individuals who have little to no political power to threaten Somaliland? If unionists in SL could speak freely it would only increase somaliland chances of recognition since they could use this to say they are truly democratic even with those who oppose somaliland's independence

Personally I think people should be allowed to have their own opinion in regards to the unity of Somalia and Somaliland.

Every year the Somaliland Human Rights Centre makes a report on the different political imprisonment and the government's legal overreach.

These where the incidents of last year:

Everybody knows that if these voices where allowed in the public domain it would not change the outcome of a referendum on statehood.

I would not even be surprised that some of these same people advocating for unity would vote for independence when they are in the voting booth alone by themselves.

But do you think that these incidents would have happened if Somaliland was a sovereign state?

Theres no such thing as unionists or separatists. That is a darood narrative used to garner wider somali support against Somaliland. A few rabid tribalist that are against the majority will drink liin in mandheera and nothing will change that mate

Do you mean in Isaaqland?,Dhulbahanteland? Or Gadabursiland ?.as where I am from in Warsangali land We are part of Somalia .no such thing as Somaliland there is only tribal enclaves.

Simple. Aside from Isaaq, Beelaha tarafyadda are Unionist. So in order to keep the project moving, you have to wack every mole that pops it's head up. :kodaksmiley:

It's their politicians who arrest them and also isaaq who shows unionism is arrested too as no one wants civil disobedience or clan conflicts in Somaliland

Now in 2021 after the parliamentary elections in May would a referendum vote in each qobol be for the independence of Somaliland? :pachah1:

1. Referendum (without pointing pistols)
2. Fair power sharing (Including Habraha)
3. Signing Hargeysa off from G36.
There's fair power sharing but what's missing is fair representation for the frontier communities in the parliament and there's no law that says beesha dhexe is reserved for presidency if the dhulbahante and Gadabursi politicians revive their old alliance and form a party with few from beesha dhexe members that party could become the 2nd largest party in Somaliland and its leader a contender for presidential office and shape the country the way they want to since next year is the opening of political associations which is a good opportunity for them to spoil beesha dhexe dominance.

Because deep down they know they're lacking in media & propaganda department. If N&N are allowed to open office in Hargeisa don't be surprised if Isaaq become pro unity.

If you can't beat them, ban them.

Doubt it, have you ever spoken to a lander before they all practically suffocate you with the flag and the fact that they are not part of somalia

Very untrue. I know landers from Somaliland and all of them are staunch separatist and want to be independent country.
