Somalis and work ethic

Anyone find it absolutely weird sending money to grown men in Somalia. I've noticed when I was in Xamar, the Bantus seemed to have the best work ethic, they were in fishing, construction and general xamaali. Why would other Somalis rather ask for money from relatives than work these jobs? They seem to be fine working these jobs in the West.
idk, 100% of my adeers in minnesota are unemployed

Somalis view work as a bad thing, they don't believe that people have to work to earn something.

An example of this is the word "Shaqaale" in Somali, the word has a bad rep.

Somalis have their own world regardless of where they are located, you will met a refugee Somali that thinks he is superior than everyone else while living in Camp with 8 children and relying on his family aboard to send him money, and still refuses to get a job while everyone else is doing something to get a bread on their table

Somali women on the other hand have better work ethic then the males, but mostly situations pushes them to get a bread on their kids table

As male Somali, i can admit that Somali men have failed us all. like or not its the truth

I lost hope for the men when i saw a Kenyan men working in construction in Somalia, a place where most people are poor, and poor do anything to get the bread, and this is a job anyone can acquire by trying.

I think the “Bantus” are not bantu but makane, who are traditionally stone-workers and technically D&M members. Mushungli are the bantus, and the of only two I knew one was a carpenter and the other managed a sofa making factory.

I think they have a beef going on, but I’m not sure.

It's not just a Somali problem it's a general horn of Africa issue. The Cushites find manual work repulsive. In my opinion it's one of the main reason why Somalia Ethiopia Eritrea & Djibouti are some of the biggest shit holes on the continent only getting beaten out by hellholes in constant war like Libya.

What excuse does a Cisse/Afar have for living in their slums in Djibouti city? A city mind you that has access to the largest trade routes of the entire dunya. What excuse does an Amhara have in Addis Ababa? All that development just to live on a few dollars a day?

What excuse does an Isaaq have in Hargeisa? 30 years of peace drinking shaax waiting for cabdillahi to send him that western union payment?

Nothing. There's no excuse.

So true, many isaaq men flaunt on how safe and "stable" somaliland is, they're acting like we're South korea. When in reality our "country" has shit ton of fixing to do from educational point of view as well women rights, ariarchitecture, building canals to avoid future drought, basic human rights and needs etc. Most of somaliland population is under the age of 30 meaning we have potential to pull a 180° if we let go of the old ideologies and this limbo of laziness.

This Hadiths has a deep beauty that can be appreciated by understanding that the word غنا which means wealth in Arabic both means interchangeably and etymologically rooted in “independence “

I also want to clarify that I’m not for dependence on others which is quite vile and disreputable, tarnishing a man’s character

Alhamdulilah in Somalia your needs are lower and usually consists of feeding your family. It’s better save your character than be branded as a beggar on the day of judgement

If your situation is dire, do work but only what sufficient to fulfill your bare needs. The more you’re available on the labor market the more susceptible to exploitation you are unwittingly, by the time you realize it’s will be too late

Labor is a trap. It’s a carrot and stuck tactic, a treadmill of dismay, it’s in your employers interest to extract the most labor from you and your cohorts ad infinitum never gaining independence.

Independence is of upmost importance, the more independent the the more noble

this is interesting and I agree but it does not seem plausible. Doesn't this go against how the markets work ie you make or provide a service or something of value in return for money. How can you compete in the global markets by wanting less. You need weaponry, expertise, technology etc to sustain yourself or you will be eaten alive by other countries.

Very good point and one that is essential to the growth of the Somali economy. Somalis especially the older generation saw manual work as something beneath them.

However, that is changing with Somalis moving to the diaspora and starting off from these jobs.

I thought about this and the best way to change it is a campaign by the Somali government to change the attitudes of people towards manual labour, essential social engineering.

honestly i would never want for Somalia to turn into south Korea. A country consumed by unfettered capitalism and consumerism. Everything they produce seems inorganic and unoriginal, a country and people who lost their soul and vitality . I sadly don't see them lasting long and do not look up to them as a country. I think the concept of the American republic would be a better inspiration.

i honestly need to learn the difference.

Construction and other labor jobs are so labor extensive and time consuming we would take another century to reach upper levels of collective Somali prosperity. We should have a good understanding of it that we can manage the labor

We have such a small density population we can easily delegate it to migrant workers on temporary visas both from West Africa and East Asia that are employed to Somali contractors

Pre Modern Europe and in Classical Rome it was regulated to serfs of the invaded nations whilst the foreign aristocracy sat back and learned how to manage the systems of labor

America used impoverished migrant workers like Irish and Italians in the east and Chinese and Hispanics in the west

Also construction really doesn’t add to the nations prosperity except in infrastructure

Educating our youth in fully comprehensive ways so they can be independent captains of industry would be fruitful

Americas prosperity first came from a robust and self sufficient agricultural economy, then mining, and finally industry , construction and real estate is a fake boom bust economy
So you think Somalia should start with agricultural production and self sufficiency and all else will follow? Wouldn't that mean we have to close our borders to free trade?

I was born in Somaliland 💀 this nigga just started claiming me as Ethiopian because disagreed with him once. I guess he has the power to change people's biological ethnicity.

Right.. its jarring. I saw Turkish construction workers and engineers working with a team of Somali Bantus taking advantage of the construction boom in Xamar. If this keeps going we are going to turn into the gulf with an imported foreign workforce and an inept native population
Good we need more highly skilled foreigns

I want the Indian and Yemenis that build to move to Ceerigaabo
